Clutch or Transfer Case?

NEVER deal with friends. That is the lesson. I sold my 1988 flatbed truck to a friend for $450.00. He gave me $150.00 down and then quit paying after the following episode. I have since taken the truck back. IDIOTS!!! It had been rolled and has major body damage but the doors shut tight and it is driveable and straight. New clutch and exhaust and only 110k original miles. He took it out into the woods and got it stuck. He tried to rock it back and forth to get it out. Violently. Very violently. Then a pop and now it will not go anywhere. The tranny and the transfer case shift fine. No go. The transfer case does not feel like it is doing anything when I shift, though. What did he tear up? x-fer case or clutch? Anyone wish to opine? Thanks. No bloviating
Randy

i really doubt that he broke the t-case, my bet is that he ripped the center of the clutch disk apart, when the clutch is engaged (pedal up) and engine running try to shift into reverse does it grind? and try to shift into other gears also, if you feel resistance, then the clutch is probably fine and somethings wrong with the t-case, its hard to diagnose over the internet, good luck

here's a way to test your t-case without taking it apart. pull the drivelines and shift into neutral on your tranny, and 4hi on the t-case. if both outputs spin when you turn one of them, it's most likely not broken.
