Clutch--Time for Replacement

The time has come for me to replace my clutch and from what i have "searched" it seems like Marlin and CF or OE are the way to go. However, has anybody had any experience with other quality clutches sets that were less pricey? I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for so if i have to pony the money then so be it. But as always--looking to save a $ where ever i can. I also do a fair amount of city driving so it has to be somewhat tame. Also--any suggestions on quality flywheels.

Thanks

And as a side note: looking at Supra Maf, Lift, intake porting, shocks, Revos, Mech LSD, Brake upgrades. going to take a week off work and get it done--FRIGGIN EXCITED

I went OE at 67K miles (previous owner fried the original). I am now at 96K and have an extensive mod list and a pretty heavy right foot - it still holds strong. If you do a lot of city driving and don't plan on running 300HP, I personally would put the OE clutch at the top of the list. I do have experience with CF clutches on other vehicles and they never let me down either...they were a bit expensive though.

I don't have any experience with that particular clutch Steve. I can speak for OEM and CF; both of which worked great (CF was installed on different vehicles though). It really depends on your plans for the vehicle and how you drive it as you select your clutch. Just remember, higher clamping force usually equates to a harder-to-push clutch pedal. Also, the more the clutch disk deviates from stock (i.e. less "pads"), the greater the cooling capacity, thus the greater the "bite." That can make it a bit rough when starting out during normal driving conditions. I wouldn't exceed 30% greater clamping force or so with my mods.

Do you think it would be wise to stick with the stock clutch as you already know I gots a s/c. Or do you think it would be worth it to upgrade to TRD?

What's the difference in price between OE and TRD?

(The reason I am not taking this to PM is because I think it relates to the thread-starter's question).

So that is the same as stock pretty much without the stealership prices? All--the only reason i am a little affraid of Stock is that at about 86k my clutch started to chatter a little and then of course only got worse and time went on. Disclaimer being that i got the truck with 84k on the ODO. Does anybody out there have a OE with 155k and no chatter?

96 Runner, sorry for the late reply. left work early and fell asleep when i got home. But i spoke with the stealership a couple of days ago. The price difference is about 250-300ish. cant quite remember exactaly. But the reason im going to the stealership is because i have no knowledge about clutchs'. Nor do i have the time.

And sorry if im Highjacking the thread

So is there anybody out there that has the stock clutch with over 100k and no chatter? I am asking because i will be doing more off-roading (SP) once this becomes my trail vehicle and i get a G35. Are there also any suggestions for quality Flywheels?

I bought my truck with 50k and a fried clutch in '89. Had it replaced with OE and now has 236k with no trouble. Admittedly I've only started wheeling it much in the past year or two. My sister ran her '90 pickup to 190k on the original clutch before she sold/traded it. Just keep your flywheel and have it resurfaced.

I'm probably going to replace mine this spring also. 150k on the original, some chatter and howl when engaging. The OEM has done well buy I'm thinking that there is something better out there. I'm thinking of the CF Dual Friction Disk over the CF1. Any thoughts?
http://www.centerforce.com/clutches....on=clutchtypes

Just looked at the Marlin HD for the 3.4L Looks good and costs about $250 less than the CF.

Waskilly,
It doesn't look like you sell a gen 3. Is that right?

Thread revival via search...

I am shopping for clutches now. I am inclined just to go OEM which most folks seem to indicate is Aisin.

Welcoming any newest thoughts-Gerdo which did you decide on if you don't mind my asking?

Best price web location for OEM or CenterForce?
