cluster issues

Hey gang, I got a cluster issue. The first symptoms I realized was the speedo needle jumping erractically and making a scratchy noise. Then the speedo and odo went dead, the tach is running fine though. MIL came on, pulled code P0500 VSS Sensor. Give me your opinion, is it the cluster of the VSS??

Did you ever figure this out have the same problem all of the sudden the speedometer stopped working this morning and the CE ligh came on and is throwing code P0500. Did you check your Speedo cable behind the cluster?

Check your fuse first, mine did this and the fuse had blown and the same DTC. I put a new one in and it blew again. I had to trace the wire for the IPC and found it was shorted to ground on the fuse panel side under the dash. Repaired the wire an no problems as of yet.

I was wondering that myself about yours when I posted my answer. Yes mine is an electronic speedometer but not digital. I'm not sure if the mechanical would have one other than background lights.

Mine is a mechanical speedometer cable with a analog odometer. I will have to pull the cluster out to see if it fell off behind it. Those cables are really hard to get back on because there is absolutely 0 slack behind the cluster.

Well I pulled apart my cluster yesterday and the plastic pin that goes into the back of the cluster is busted. Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the entire cable? It does not look easy at all just looking at the route it takes and a rough idea of how much it costs at the dealership?
