Not sure but it's probably the shift lock solenoid. It locks the shifter into P until you press the brake pedal. If that's what it is, that's normal.

my o3 4 runner is making some weird noies from under the dash also. just had it in the shop to get the remote start fixed, they put a bigger relay in the remote start so i'm going back to them to see if they know whats making my noise, i'll keep you posted. my noise is more than just a click though.

How is your brake pressure?

2wd or 4wd?

If you want to see if the shift lock solenoid is bad, remove the center console. You will see a cylinder looking plastic tube located in front of the shifter covered by a metal brass colored bracket. Follow the wire(s) from the end of the solenoid to the 6 pin (4wd) or 2pin (2wd) connector on the left hand side. It should be covered by a black foam piece. Use a DMM to check for continuity, looking from the top of the connector down, with (+) being on the left for the 2 pin connector and the top left for the 6 pin connector. Good is between 21~27 ohms. Replace the shift lock control switch at the same time.

brake pressure is ok- pedal goes down closer to the floor than i like but this seems to be normal with the 97 4 runners- i have a 2wd- (girl truck) my brakes were always like this since new.........

I will try your advise with the shift lock solenoid- now the sound is gone???????

thanks
