Clearing MAINT light (2003)

Just had an oil change and Toyota didn't clear my MAINT light. I asked them how to do it and they said "Hold RESET and turn key to ON then OFF" But it didn't work.

Is there any trick to clear the MAINT light besides pulling fuses or using ODB?

It says how to do it in the owner's manual, but I'm at work right now, and I can't remember exactly what it says. You do use the reset button for the odometer, but I can't remember what the "trick" is. If nobody else has an answer, I can post it on here later tonight.

i think you're suppose to hold the reset button on for 5 sec... make sure u hold it down before turning the key

it should do it.... you'll see it blink 3-4times and then stop....

turn the car off and turn it on again and it should be gone.

Gotta ask, does anyone have their Maint light flashing for a while (say 30sec) when you turn on your '03 ? I didn't notice it until a few days ago... But, it flashes after all the other lights go out, then turns off under one minute.

The Reset button, we're talking about, is by the odometer, no ?

Didn't work - here's what I did.

Hold reset button for >5secs.
Insert key, turn to ON
wait for Maint light to flash about 3 times
turn key to OFF and remove
....
Insert key, and start as normal.
MAINT still flashing after all other warning lights turn off.

I hope that you're holding the reset button at you turn the key and have it on for 5 sec or so...

after you see the light stop flashing then it should have reset itself. turn the key off and on again to see if it worked...

Yup. Did that.

I tried a few things, including holding the reset button from 5 seconds before inserting the key and hodling it until the MAINT light stopped flashing completely after inserting the key and turning to ON position. All that happened was my trip counter was reset.

Just curious, it you Maint light staying on or does it cut off after a few seconds ?

I'm telling you mine flashes for like 30sec and I don't remember it doing that before, maybe I just wasn't looking. All the other lights go out.

Yes. Exactly the same. It flashes for about 30secs even after all other warning lights turn off.

Got it,

You need to put the trip/ODO display into ODO mode before doing the sequence.

My maintenance light was doing this recently so I took it to the dealer. The guy jumped in and I saw him holding the reset button on the odometer and turning the key to on. After a couple of tries, he said he fixed it, so I got in and left. Next time I cranked it up, there went the MAINT light.

At first I was a little concerned but I figured I'd give it a try. I proceeded to turn off the truck and held the button down...the light flashed 5 times real fast and went off...I cranked up the truck, no light. Turned it off and cranked again...no light. So for some reason I was able to fix it, and the technician wasn't...I may need to stay away from that dealership!

This is what I did and it worked on the first try...first make sure your vehicle odometer is set to ODO, then hold down the reset button and turn the key to the on position. You will see the maintenance light flash 5 times quickly and then go off. Turn your key off and then back on again. The maintenance light should now go off before all the other indicator lights finish their processes. It works.

I left the light alone cause it shut off after it blinked a few times but when I hit 7500 it stayed on constantly

What I did with the truck off, hold the reset button for the trip meters then turn the key to on and continue to hold the light will blink and go out

I really did not read the thread to much so if you got it

There is a TSB Dated March 07,2003 under "Electrical" #EL002-03
that runs through the Reset Procedure.

Check page 120 in the Owners Manual, item (h). It explains the function of the 'Maint" light with respect to oil change reminders and mileage. At the end of the section, on page 121, it gives the procedure for clearing the maint reminder light. It worked on mine with no problem, once I read it and understood it. It takes me a while, sometimes.
