I feel sorry for you mertz, didn't think there were any of us out there. Fight the good fight. I grew up in a southern baptist church, so I see where OicnaiC's coming from, but we're not all that bad, at least I don't think we are.

If I were Baptist it would be a lot easier but I'm Catholic and those Baptists don't seem to like us much, (especially the southern Baptists)

No one in my church really had problems with other denominations. Their hypocricy included things like boycotting a member's store because he sold alcohol. Just like every religion/denomination, there are people who take things too far.

I see you are in Gainesville too...lol Do you have a sound system? Im going back up there to compete with my system in both Live Oak and Starke on sat and sun respectively.

have you extended your breathers yet? Lockers? Two things I need badly.

And I agree about being a right wing dude....lol

Ive been away from this board TOOOOO Long.

You might try this. On one of my cars I removed the cat and put in a test pipe that a local shop made for me for about 15.00 It had a sliding flange that I could bolt up on one end, and the other end was swelled up so it would slip on and I could use muffler clamps on it. I was careful when I pulled the cat so I could put it back on one day. the increase in upper rpm HP was noticable, as was a louder exhaust, but this engine was designed for low rpm torque, and the test pipe killed the torque so it was a dog off line and lugged at low rpms and speeds that it used to handle with no problem. End result is the car was more driveable with the cat.

The fact of the matter is that your truck will probably run better with a cat on there. A little back preasure is a good thing. Without one you might be able to register a little more horse power but it will be at the cost of torque. You drive a truck, torque is a good thing. So unless you are building 1000 HP supras like that moron was talking about, get a nice highflow cat and call it a day.

Thanks for your imput on the the great state of FL. To bad there is NO emissions testing and NO visual inspection. So this way myself and all the rest of us FL. people can get away with it.

"So you guys all go out and grab your trees cause here in Orlando they're cutting them down faster then my truck can kill them."
Thanks,
John

I'm all for that too!!! I figure, If I wanted a 1000hp thing it wouldn't be no supra! it would be more like an italian sports car that high class chicks would dig, not these like rice burner hig pitched slappy exhaust baby's bling neon glowing underbody (speed bumps for my runner, hehe) pos's that you see buzzing around with 16 year old punks with shaved heads and sunglasses in the middle of the night driving. okay, breath, calm your nerves, okay I feel better now. I got a runner to 4wheel. but that's my opinion so it's probably not worth a crap to the high horse power lowered street rod runner owners. don't take offense to this just read it and move on and realize that this is a toyota suv/truck site.

I wouldn't mind if my runner had 1000 horses under the hood. Not to go fast, but to have some balls.

OK so let go back to the original post.

"Will clearing out my cat have any performance or sound gains."

Let's just answer the question. Yes and Yes.

Hey this is a Toyota truck site. 2WD 4WD it's still a Toyota truck.
Most Toyota owners have respect for other Toyota's. Don't forget the 93.5-98 TT Supra's cost $40,000-$50,000 brand new. Which is just alittle bit more then any of our 4Runner's cost, and they still holded there value at $20,000 plus. If this will make anything better I'll quit talking about Supra's when the Cat subject stops being discussed weekly.

Thanks,
John

However, it is also our job to educate someone considering this mod. What are the ramifications of gutting/removing the cat? Increased emissions across the board, loss of low end power, a heck of a lot louder, yada yada yada.

If this will make anything better I'll quit talking about Supra's when the Cat subject stops being discussed weekly.
Why make a deal with everyone? The original poster was obvioisly asking about his cat, on his truck, for his engine. Not the performance gains off a 700-1000HP Supra. Driving on the street without a cat is illegal. How hard is that to understand? I am surprised that a shop manager/tech such as yourself pushes people to "try out" illegal mods on their cars. Your website is very cool, with some truly awesome rides on it, but I just cant look at the same when I know the management suggests illegal mods to enthusiasts.

Thats where the 2WD knock is.

Driving 1 mph over the speed limit is illegal too, but I'm sure you break that one daily. Do you come to a complete stop at every stop sign? Even though there are signs posted does that keep you from breaking it? A law is a law. It doesn't matter big or small. It's still a law. We ALL are guilty. Nobody is perfect.

I build customers cars as they want them. If they want a cat we put it in, but I'm not going to fight the green peace war and tell them they have to keep it. I can tell that most of you fighting the cat war have not much hands on with Jap. performance. Alot of the parts are not street legal. They are for off road use only, but that doesn't stop us from selling millions of dollars worth of parts year after year.

Thanks for all your coments.

John
