Hey guys. I have a '97 Honda Civic EX(All of the honda forums were completely bogus. They didnt give any info, and just flamed all the time. You guys a cooler. Plus my friend YotaTruck1986 has an '86 Toyota Pickup) Anyway, I've been thinking about cleaning my engine because it is really dirty. So far i have cleaned the headers cover and the top of the engine block where it says HONDA in big letters. I used Simple Green, which is an awesome product by the way. The only problem is, when i turn the car on after cleaning it, it starts makin weird noises. The car runs fine, and if you wait for a few hours after cleaning it, it won't make the noises. Any ideas why its doin this? And please give me any other tips on cleaning the engine. Thanks.

 

do a search on engine detailing. you'll find plenty there. simple green works, with some other degreasers, and heard people spraying no touch tire cleaner on afterwords for the plastic pieces.

You want to describe the noises?

 

Well its kind of a squeaking noise that starts out low and gradually gets higher pitched. Also, when you push the gas down and release it right away, so that the engine revs up then goes straight bak down, it make a kind of low pitched squeak when the rpm's top off. Any ideas? I think it mite be just some water on one of the belts. But maybe not.

I tried the Gunk/WD40 method on my truck and it worked great. You can also substitute Pledge furniture spray instead of WD40 because it attracts more dust.

 

the squeeking might be a belt, check your belts and see if any are cracked and need replaced or they just need to be tightened down a bit

 

That sound like a belt problem to me, Ewayota is right!

Bigblob: Have you checked out the www.honda-acura.net forum?

 

The belts might be tight enough but they may not like the stuff that you are putting on them.the noise going away suggest's that once they have dried out there fine.
either way it doesnt sound like much to worry about.
