Chipped paint on a 99 limited bumper

I am about to buy a 99 Limited 4x4 Black/tan 4runner. It is black, with the tan trim. The front bumper is of course painted tan, and the metal piece painted has severly chipped up. How much would it cost to get the front bumper painted, even only the one piece, the metal, i will gladly send pics if anyone wants to see them.

Also, what should i be paying for a 99 limited 4x4 with 85,000 miles?

also the long parking light below the chipped paint, one has water in it, how expensive is that to replace?

Sounds like a good start to adding a little character to a 4Runner. Invest your "paint" money in a cool mod, like a bull bar. No more worries about paint on that dang bumper. It's just going to get scraped off anyway.

yeah, well for now, im keeping it simple. I am 18 and this is my graduation present. I have owned 3 cars, 1 suv with a 5 inch lift. I will do some simple off roading but for now, especially with gas prices, its gonna be simple. All I will add is a brush guard, tailight guards, and some extra lights.

Anyways, I see thats a common problem on the painted metal on the newer limiteds... any suggestions?

If it's chipped from rocks, then yeah, that is kinda common. If it's actually flaking off, then, no, it's not a common problem, and it more-than-likely means that it's been repainted at some point by a cheap shop that didn't do it correctly. It will run you between $150 and $400 depending on where you go and if they have to take everything apart or you do it for them. The bumper is VERY easy to take off. I suggest that you take it off and take it apart and just take the part to the body shop. You'll get your best deal that way. I have a blinker lens that I will sell you (off my old 99 bumper) for $15 including shipping. They are about $45 or $50 from the dealer.

Here's a pic. Is this the type of light you need?

bamachem thanks -

I will go ahead and take that lens, that is the one (drivers side, right?)....
shoot me over an email: Jgstewart8@aol.com

it hasnt been repainted it is just VERY small chips from rocks and road debris, its just there are a lot of them. The plastic part of the bumper doesnt look bad, its that one i'd say 4 inch tall strip that is metal on every type of runner except the limited. How could I just take that piece off to take in to be painted?

Also, what do you guys use to upload pics on to here? That way I can show you pics.

you have to take the entire bumper off and then take it apart. it's really easy to do if you wrench a little...

http://imageshack.us/ free pic hosting. i actually use yahoo web hosting....

it's very easy once you get it off. make sure to unplug the fogs and blinkers before you do take it off so you don't pull on the wiring and stress them.

ummm... looks nice, but you need to re-size those first three pics on your computer, then re-upload them, then click on edit on your post and change the image file sources so they don't show up so HUGE!

i dont think theres anything wrong with that lens.. that happens to my clear lenses on very rainy days... its just condensation and/or a small leak. it wont effect the function of the turn signal at all.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that lens at all.
Take it off, drain the water out of it and seal any cracks with clear silicone (if they are non visible).
If the crack is on the front then just get another or live with it.

Hey, if you want me to hold off on sending the new one, then that's fine. It will give you a chance to take that one off and see if you can clean it out and fix it. If you decide that you don't need a new one, I'll refund the paypal $$. Let me know...
