They kind of look like the running boards on the newer 4Runner's that have the lights in them.

Not exactly. Me and a handful of other members here have already installed these Field Monitor Units in our 4Runners and they work great. For more information, check out my write up: FM Unit Write Up. (It also contains links to other write ups done by members who have installed them on their 4Runner.)

The question I was asking, was what do those 2 extra wires accomplish? Again, my unit works flawlessly, but I still don't know what those 2 wires do? I'm guessing they serve some miniscule function, but I'd still like to know what that is. To be honest, I don't know what they do. I've been trying to track down someone who does know what they do, but I've had no luck.

did you ever discover to what those two extra wires are supposed to connect?
