the only problem is that i am in TX and its in TN

but i think you have the 8.4" r&p
97 V6 Runners (I think only the V6 models) had 8" 4-pinion spiders, and the Tacomas from '95.5-'00 had 8", 2-pinion spiders. The 8.4" came in later year Tacos. Is your Runner a 4-cyl? If so, I think it might be the same diff.

The studs for the third are also 10mm with 14mm bolts (Runner/pre-Taco uses 8mm studs I believe), and the pinion is different as well. And I believe you are right about the spider gears as well, I think the Taco's are 30 spline as opposed to 27 spline for Runner/pre-Taco.
NICE! sounds like someone has been doing their homework, wish more people would do the same

Someone's gotta do it! But everyone on this board knows so much about their specific truck... it's unbelievable! Total dedication.

Is it a 4-pinion designed diff? I think it is, but I'm not sure...

Could you post up a pic of the carrier body (If it's not too much trouble)?

I would, but its a little too much trouble since I am 1200 miles away from the part. If i was at home i would take some pics. I'll see if my dad can take some pics when he stops by my place this weekend.

LOL... *foot in mouth* That's cool. Thanks for the help!

BTW, your avatar looks like a time you might have taken your Runner for a swim? Awesome.
