Check engine light on
Hey all...
I was driving home from work yesterday and my check engine light came on... I pulled over and looked around and didn't see anything... it still drives fine... I still have to do that blinking light thing to see what code it gives.. but is there anything I should look for right off the bat?
no misfires.. everything electrical seems to still work.. any ideas?

I checked the gas cap... it was holding seal.. it hissed when I opened it.

Maybe, but not likely. I mentioned it because I've known a couple of people that got check eng. lights due to some of the oil from the filter getting on the MAF. You could pull the EFI fuse, which will reset the check engine light, and see whether it comes back on. This would tell you whether it was a fluke thing. Cleaning the MAF with electronics cleaner and the rest of the throttle body would be easy enough to do, isn't a bad thing to do anyways, and you could rule this out.

ok... it's a code 71... which means something is wrong with the EGR...
we blew into it to make sure it wasn't cloged.. we checked the EGR temp wire with an ohmmeter.. it read really high the first time but then it read normal... we checked the VSV I think it is.. it was fine too.. so I'm still not sure what's going on.
any ideas?
