Question Check engine codes, can anyone help?

My check engine light came on Friday. I have suspected that there was a problem but of course they could never find anything. Well I took it to Autozone and they pulled off a few codes:
P0171 - system too lean
P0125 - insufficient coolant, closed fuel loop
P1135 - air fuel sensor

Can anyone give me any insight to what the problem could be? I have a 99 Rav 4 'L' 4WD. Tha gas mileage is terrible and sometimes I smell gas coming from the exhaust. I purchased it used not even a year ago and I am just frustrated beyond belief. I love my truck and I just want to see it is taken care of!

Ok first thing that happened is that you have insuffecient coolent which led to your system being too lean, which closed the fuel loop causing your air/fuel sensor to go off. hey at least it sounds like I know something
Actualy I don't have the sightest idea, but welcome to Yota tech.
I does sound like you have a problem with your truck trying to cool itself. which in turn could cause it to compensate by providing to much/less air and gas mixture. Check your filters fuel/air and your coolent levels in the radiator and overfill res. You could try some fuel system cleaner to get the sludge out.
Got any pics of the Rav 4?

Talking RE: check engine light

Well that first idea sounded great! Gees, it made sense to me! It's just so dern frustrating! I am hoping that it won't be half an arm and a leg to get it fixed. I don't have any pics on disk but I have been meaning to take one. It's not a big tough truck, it's just my little rugged, sporty Rav4. I love it! I am just so mad that these jerks sold me a hunka! Thanks for your help!

How long have you had the rav4? What does it do that makes you suspect there is a problem...or are you just paranoid? jk -Assuming the battery has never been disconnected, those codes could be very old and therefore mean very little. If the rav is running fine (as far as you can tell), reset the computer by disconnecting the battery or pulling the EFI fuse. That will clear the codes. (you have the other ones written down anyways obviously) Drive it around gently, check your fluids, and throw a bottle of injector cleaner in it too. Then, when your check engine light comes back on, you will know for sure what it thinks is wrong. I would definitely try and find a competent, trustworthy mechanic in the meantime, because a check engine light means something is not within normal operating parameters. gl

Angry It's offficial

Well it's official. Friday evening upon trying to go home....my truck wouldn't start. Toyota is now investigating so i won't hear anything until tomorrow! What a great start to the weekend! I have only had this vehicle since October of last year! What a pain! However, I still love my truck! Thanks!:pat:

RAV4 Engine light on

berlybelle,

My wife has had her RAV4 engine light on for about 1 1/2 years, we have taken it to several places including the dealer and they can't find the problem.

We have it again in the dealer to see if they can find the problem
