Changed back to stock wheels, white letters out

Maybe this didn't merit a new thread but I wanted to share the update. I've always wanted the backspacing from my stocks ever since i got the rockcrawlers. the wider stance looked a little goofy, maybe something a 2" bl could have fixed. I love with the stock wheels my tire lines up exactly with the sr5 flares so i don't have to worry about finding limited flares....for now. Decided also to put the white lettering out, i think it looks a lot better.

Boo!

But seriously...personally, I wouldn't put the whites out on a black truck, but that's just me.

I like white lettering out, especially on BF's. I agree that stock backspacing looks the most "natural," and it looks like a rig you don't make fun of because it's probably more capable than yours (a sleeper). I like the all-black look, but the stocker wheels look good too.

edit: on second glance, I really like the look of it now - not too wide to fit through jeep trails, not overbuilt, just right. I think it's better than your avatar pic.

I liked the black wheels more. Wider stance looks more aggressive plus gives added stability. What was the backspacing of those rock crawlers?

I think it looks good either way. I went back and forth with the white in and out on mine too at first.

I think it would make a huge difference if you were to take the chrome off the wheel wells. I did that to my truck and it made the biggest difference. Just my .02

The black wheels definitely made it look more aggressive, but I think they made it look taller. Not that the stock wheels look bad, but they ruin the black theme and seem like the truck is shorter.

Your Rockcrawlers were steel, right? So the stockers should be lighter?

I liked the black wheels better myself, looks stockish now. But if you like it, thats what matters.

I like the stock wheels better! I agree weth Jeff also, losing the chrome trim would make it look super clean, and a couple years newer.

Just a few weeks ago I thought your truck was just plain goofy with the wide mudders, and gray bottom, not lift; but I have now become quite envious. Keep it coming man.

I too like the stocks better on your particular rig. THe white letters out is also a good thing, IMO. Your 4Runner is coming along great. Keep it up!

wow i just noticed in the second to last picture of mine it looks like the rear is sagging horribly. in reality though its not that bad. i have a set of cruiser coils on the way as we speak, plan to decrease the rake by putting my 265 spare back in and mounting a hi lift jack on the bumper right above the trailer hitch if i can get it to work.

and crboacj thanks man. i assume you were talking about this picture?

haha looking back this was the low point of my modding career. the only reason it looked that goofy is because i bought all 4 rockcrawlers already mounted on those swampers for 200 bucks and didn't yet have the money to swap tires. man that looked stupid. oh well, good times....haha i even remember trying to convince myself it looked good when i got them hahaha

I think it looks great, looks very clean and capable. Although, the concensus is the black wheels...do what you want.

Another vote for the "stockers" and the white lettering!

I will have to say I like the stock 15x7JJ alloys better; however, on a black truck or SUV, I would have kept the white letters in. Looks good though.

I think it looked better with the swampers...probably rode like ass on the street though.

x3 on taking off the chrome moldings, then it would have looked awesome with the black wheels.

Looks good!

I'm thinking about sticking the letters out as well... Too bad it won't look as cool on stock 265/70/16"s LOL...

I'm sure the difference in acceleration and braking, (as well as MPG), is significant considering how much lighter the stock wheels are in comparison to the steelies. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Stockers look much better, but as said before, lose the chrome wheel well trim.
