CEL... and questions..

Hi all,
My check engine light came on about 2 weeks ago..Today was the first time I had to try and work on it. I took it to AutoZone and had them check what code it was throwing. heres what it read: PO 171 (too lean) I got that twice and PO 172 (too Rich).. So from what I read it could be the O2 sensor correct.. Autozone wants 130 bucks for each one..

Today, I did the recommended things.. Clean the MAF, and foam Airfilter... I also cleaned the TB. but my light is still on. Should I wait a while to see if the MAF starts reading correctly? should I buy teh O2 sensors? I need 2 right? Wheres a better place to buy them? any suggestions and Help would be appreciated..

I have a 2000 4runner V6 Auto.. with an Amsoil Airfiter.

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0172 System too Rich (Bank 1)

So you are correct. I haven't had to deal with the check engine light on only due to I don't think mine actually works, but, to turn the light off, you need to reset it to see if any of the changes you made fixed the problem. I'm sure if you run a search, you can figure out how to do that.

Thanks did a search..

1) first suggestion.. yank and place back in the EFI Fuse.. did that.. still have a CEL on..

2) 2nd suggestion.. remove Neg cable from battery terminal for a few mins..

Im currently trying that out.. I'll post back later my results.

thanks for the suggestion.

They both accomplish the same thing... kill power to the EFI system. I recently did a web search for 02 sensors for my 2000 3.0L and found OEM sensors for under $90. Can't remember where, though.

Ok heres whats happend..
I pulled the EFI fuse and the light didnt turn off. Then I disconnected the negative battery terminal for a few mins.. and that did the trick. also something else happend. My gas gauge, I had alway suspected was very off. It would show me at empty somewhere around 200 miles but when I'd fill up the tank it would only take about 12 gallons. So I always assumed my gauge was off or not working correctly.. because from what Ive read my 4Runner should have an 18 gallon tank right?
Well before I disconnected the battery my gauge was showing me I had hald a tank. After I reattached the battery the gauge was showing me I still had 3/4 of a tank full.. weird huh?
