Yup, I wrote that before searching.
Question:
Can you do the grey wire for locker engagement in any gear for the 01-02?

Im sure someone with an 01-02 will chime in.
I have a 2002 and the transfer case only moves in two directions (like the auto transmission lever):

And the "4WD" button is on the side. Clicking that button in my 4Runner gives me quote-unquote all wheel drive. Center isn't locked, so no matter what surface you're on, you won't bind. Hitting the center differential lock while in either 4H (more like AWD) or 4L will lock that center diff. Wouldn't recommend having the CD locked on dry surfaces or even rainy pavement. VSC disables when you lock the center diff...so having the VSC OFF light illuminate is fine, but your CEL and TRAC lights shouldn't be on. I have hit my CDL button while in 2WD but nothing has happened

This is the rear locker button but unfortunatly it only lasted for 4 model years from '96-'00. The rear diff lock positively locks the rear wheels with zero slippage between the two wheels

x2... that's how it works.

If your CEL is on, you have a problem. You shouldn't be worried about how to clear the codes... you should be looking around for a friend that has a code reader, or head to autozone where they'll read it for free for you. Why would you want to clear it without knowing what set it off?

Once the codes have been read for you, they can also clear them for you with the code reader.
