Question Can I fit a 99+ Grill in my 97?

Whatsup Guys-

I am going to be installing my tranny cooler this week and I know I have to take off my grill to mount the unit. Does anyone know if I can retrofit a newer style 3rd gen grill in my 97?? If yes, are there any writeups?

Thanks

Should be a direct replacement for the grill. There is a tranny write-up on tech section

Yes, the grill will fit, I myself have a 99' grill that I painted to match the color of my 97'. It is basically plug and play. Really no write up needed. The only complicated part is being very carefull when removing the grill you have on now, the plastic tabs will have a tendency to break if forced hard enough. But since you are replacing it, that shouldn't be a big concern. All that is needed is a flat head screwdriver to remove it.

The only thing that may be a concern is the emblem, the older grill's style emblem does not directly fit into the newer grills. I can look at mine again if needed, I forget right now if I replaced the emblem or if I just made the old one work with a dremel tool.

Cheers

Bassman,

Ditto to all of the above. Instead of buying a new 99 grill, post a "Trade" ad in the Classified section and you might be able to find someone to swap a 99 or 00 grill for your 97 grill.

Thanks for the info li. I am totally clueless so forgive me for my stupidity (I haven't gotten in there and or removed the grill yet):
So does the 99 grill come with the emblem or is it just a space that wraps around my existing emblem??

Depends on what your plan is.

If you were to buy one from Toyota, no the emblem does not come with the grill. The grill itself is just the bare plastic and their is a space in the middle for inserting a emblem into the grill (since their are different emblem options), and the emblem screws into the plastic grill from the back. You would have to purchase an emblem as well as the grill with this plan.

If you get one used as Bob has mentioned, it would probably come with one. Since the emblems are not universally plug and play like the grill's are a person who would get rid of one would most likely also let it go with the emblem. They are the same size but the emblem has different mounting points with the different grills.

Unless you get a chrome or grey grill (not sure grey is even possible), you will also have to paint it. Which is pretty easy too.
