a/c smells like men's urinal. :(

Hi guys! It's been getting really hot in the bay area and started using my a/c. The a/c works well but smells real bad. How do I fix this? Is there some filter I need to change? It's really embarassing when I take my friends out lol.

It sounds like the condensation from your evaporator (behind your glove box) is not draining properly. There's a tube coming out of the firewall that allows the water to drain on to the ground. If this tube get's plugged the water can't drain and then it get's really smelly when you're running the A/C.

there is no air filter to change for the 3rd gen. more than likely there is mold buildup. the only way i've heard of is turn your AC on full blast and spray lysol down into the cowling on the outside of your windshield.

a men's urinal?? is that as opposed to a women's urinal?

I agree with hilux808, check the drain line first. Some new clear tubing to route the drain to a better spot is usually a good idea.

sounds similar to when I had to tear apart the entire front interior of my runner looking for a 'dead mouse' smell. never found it either, just went away, hmmm...

I would make sure the drain is clear, then get this: http://www.ac-evaporator-cleaner.com...lean-ackit.htm
This will clean the evaporator coils and kill all the bacteria and mold in the evaporator case. I have used these BG kits dozens of times and they are the only products that actually work!

Their website says you have to drill a 1/4" hole in the evaporator core housing, in order to use the product. Can you tell us where you drilled the hole and if/how you covered the hole you drilled?

I haven't done it on the 4R yet, but working at the dealer I used to do these all the time. You have to be careful not to drill into the evaporator or lines and the dampers. You drill a hole, then thread an adapter into the hole to attach the cleaner line. The adapter comes with a cap to close off the hole. You just leave the adapter in the case. This kit really really works well, and the frigi-fresh spray can be used about 5-6 times. I have a few leftover cans and use it about once a month.

Also, make sure you drill the hole upstream of the evaporator, since you want the incoming air to push the foam through the core. Just use a parts diagram to see the layout of the evaporator case.
