Smile Buying a 02 4wd Sport Edition

Hey all!
Just wanted to share - I am having an 02 Sport Edition shipped to a local carmax which should be arriving in a few weeks. Assuming everything checks out when it gets here, I will be trading in my 97 and taking this puppy home. Just wanted to share my excitement - been looking for an 02 4wd Sport for quite some time..they are fairly hard to find - can't come to terms with the new body style...3rd gen > 4th. It has 60k on it which is a bit higher than I would have preferred, but I have had such a hard time finding a 02 sport with 4wd that I jumped on this when I saw it.

I have been searching the forum for advice over the past few days, looks like the fuel gauge problem does not involve this model year...anything else I should be aware of for the 02s?

Thanks!

Looks great man! I'd be way excited. I totally agree too, I think that the 3rd gens are definitely the best looking 4Runners out there.

what are your plans for that bad-boy?

Lockers? Gears? body protection?

Nice truck and of course with the SE you eliminate your affliction of "scoop envy".

Nice, 60K is nothing for a 4Runner.

60K on a 6 yr old vehical is good mileage. There was a front ball joint recall on the 2002 4 Runners, make sure that the work has been performed. I have not had a single issue with mine other than the recall. Enjoy your new 4Runner

thats the question isnt it! going to transfer my clear corners from my 97, buy some of the fog clears from burtman..thinking about the led tails.

but the real thing i am debating now is whether or not to take some extra $ out on the loan for a TRD supercharger. I always wanted to charge my 97, but I quickly was under the impression since the s/c probably would not run right as just a bolt on and nothing else...combined with the high miles on the 97 i decided to fore go. Now that I am bringing in a 02....its tempting.

I guess what I am really interested in - is if I could create a stable/pingless reliable s/c'ed runner with only the s/c itself, the 7th injector kit (I was going to buy as a package...since then I have learned Gadget created a company and sells them as well...) and a tranny cooler. Does anyone know of a owner that has not dove into extensive fuel modifications...that got a s/c to run correctly with only what I listed above?

02 items to note:

Ball joint spacer recall, I haven't done mine yet, but I'll get it done after I install my toytec spacer.

There are a few threads discussing a transmission weakness with the overdrive - but I think the jury's still out on this one.

The 01's and 02's were low riders, your can get 99 springs to lift it 1.5", or OME 881/906 to lift it 2.5", or 881+spacer/890 to lift it 3".

The braking system makes a "whrrrr... click" noise in the engine compartment, this is normal.

I think all came with a center locker, this is not nearly as good as a rear locker.

All 01 and 02's were Cali emissions (2 Cats)

4:10 tranny standard on sport edition.

Leather was not standard on the SE, nice upgrade

The weather seal around my driver-side door has pulled away from the door jam in the upper rear corner, might want to double check your seals.

That's all for now
