burning oil
i noticed my 22re pinging louder than normal monday and noticed that my oil dipstick was very low. My truck has 141000 miles on it and has no oil leaks. what's the deal? People think its the valve seals. If it is how do I fix it, what do I need to replace, and how do I know if its getting worse or better?

Valve seals are the cheapest repair ,but you'll probably need ring work also.My 85 22re had a rebuilt head on it when i got it and it burned a quart every 500 miles. No leaks, no visible smoke out of the tailpipe .

Well, 141k is not very many miles on a 22RE. I sold one that had 250K and still would only use about a quart of oil every 4-5k miles. Have a leakdown test if it's losing enough oil to matter. This way you can pinpoint where the oil is going... rings or valves. You can do a compression check, but this won't necessarily show you where the leak is, but rather just how bad it is.
