Bumpstops
ok, so im rebuilding the front end in my 87runner now, little at a time, and i want to know if i should buy the low profile bumpstops, or just grind on mine? and-has anyone ever replaced the 4 piston 1st gen calipers? is there an upgrade kit available or not? thanks in advance!

Do the bump stops. It will give your IFS a hair more articulation. I did my 93 recently. Cheap and easy. There is a writeup in the tech section. Your IFS should be really similar to mine.

Why not take them off all together? j/k
I think if you grind the rubber, the soft material left won't keep the components from bottoming beyond the safe distance it should be compressed. The Energy Suspension models are firmer urethane and will cushion the pressure adequately. Not to mention how are you going to get them all exactly the same? Are you going to take them off to grind them? Good luck getting them off in one piece. Keep in mind that the stock stops are rubber. Mine had cracks in them and were 6 years younger than yours are.
I will take an hour or so and cost $21 in parts.

with the sway bar disconnected I bet they give more than a "hair" of additional articulation.... I have yet to measure the difference due to my damn swaybar not letting the IFS fully articulate. But i have the low pro bump stops on mine right now....

I will hit it for the bumpstops too.. I am pretty suprised on how much more ir really does drop now with the bump stops changed.. You will gain about 1" of drop (without sway bars connceted) I bottom out the bump stop and I plan on the same with my sway bar discos..
