Qdawg, I rocked a Westin Safari bar for a while, and although it is fairly thin, like Grimpy said, it withstood some fairly hard wheeling, until I realized that I was gonna destroy it if I didn't take it off. (They aren't designed for heavy off-road use anyway). I was happy with it, it just didn't suit my needs anymore. Too bad I didn't still have it, I'd make you a heck of a deal...

On the Westin Safari bar [LINK], Do I need to buy the Tacoma adapter (Part number 30-1105) , the 3" spacer, or both? I noticed Grimpy had the adapter also, so I don't know if I need to buy it also. I found the bar itself on Amazon.com for about $115, the tacoma adapter for about $47, and Hella 500's on Ebay for about $50-60.

I have read the reviews, and know it cant take more than a 5mph hit, but I just need something inexpensive to mount some lights to for night driving around where I live (and I dont want to drill in the bumper).

Thanks!

R1, you need the mount kit which is the one you are referring to as the adapter... Then you need to space it out another 3" to clear the front bumper.

Considering they have bar nows for the 99+ bumpers, you should just go with those... don't need to make the extension.

That would be great if I could find the mount for the 99+ 4Runner. I checked Westin's site (http://www.westinautomotive.com/page...T_SL-apps.html) and didn't see anything about 3rd Gen 4Runners. Can you point me to whom sells the bar/mount?

Westin doesn't have a mount for it... If you scroll up to mikehinthehouse's post... he said he got his off ebay.

Anyone know the maximum height for lights on the Hunter Bar (close to Westin Bull bar)?

The site says 6" wide, but nothing about height. Hella 500's are about 6.5 inches tall, but almost any light that is 100w+ is 9" tall... don't know if that will fit.

I've had great luck with the westin bar, lifetime warranty and sweet skidplate. The quality on this pieces is top notch.

96-98 bar

99-02 bar

I can get you guys just about ANY guard, so let me know or email me for a good deal.

Its On!!

The hunter bar works and fits great.. an hour to put on, the Hella 500's took a bit longer to wire correctly, but total cost for the whole setup (bar & lights) was about $180.

That is the same reason why I installed a hitch on the rear of my truck.

The westin bull bars are more plates with two tubes correct?

Darn! I finally got the funds to spend on the Hunter bull bar, and they are out of stock. I phoned them up and they said they should have new stock in roughly a month's time. Just thought I would post this info in case anyone else is looking for one at the moment.

I guess I will wait and try to sniff out a good deal on some lights. I have 6 pairs of roadlamps new in package sitting in my basement, but sadly none are really right for the 4Runner.

What is the beam pattern like on the Hella 500's? Are they a fog or driving lamp? Vendors always seem to use the terms together, but they are two very different types of lighting and I find it frustrating trying to search for DRIVING lights and I don't know if it is a fog or a driving beam.

I went with the driving lamp style, but if I had to do it over again, I would go with the Hella 500 fog style. Driving is soooo directional. I knew they would be but wow, they are extremely concentrated in 2 beams. I have factory driving lights, but didnt figure these (especially with upgraded wattage bulbs) would be this directional. I found the price for the Hella 500's to be better at Advance Auto Parts than the internet (strange I know). They have a set for $65.

btw, did you email the Hunter bar company direct? If not, their email is hunter4help@yahoo.com

Yup, phoned them direct and e-mailed their eBay store as well (same response on both ends.)

I agree that having some extra beam width is handy at times. I plan on mounting at least 4 lights to the front of the 4Runner: a couple of oval driving lamps made by Pilot. They are cheap 55W driving lights but have a nice low and WIDE beam in a yellow color due to the dichroic (sp?) reflectors which change the color of light without reducing its output by means of a tinted lens.

They are very good compromise between fog and driving lights and I can get away with leaving them on with my low beams without being flashed (in poor weather.)

I wanted another set of lamps for use with my high beams; a big set of rounds. I've seen some that have dual focus reflectors and dual bulb (or dual filament) made by FET or Catz, I beleive.

As far as the rounds go, I'm not really sure what I want. I just know I want more light everywhere with the high beams. I'm really tempted to make a lightbar for the roof and mount more Pilot lights up there (I have three pairs of their Titanium series lamps.)

How much lighting power can the 4Runner supply with its alternator?

Correct:

96-98 bar

99-02 bar

A better pic of the skidplate, which can also be removed.

I have many more pics I can email you with the black version, etc.

Also, those wanting hella lights, let me know, I can get them at good pricing.

Hey, does anyone know the max height for mounting lights on the Hunter bar? I'm thinking about some dual beam CATZ LM CL310. The height says 7.5", so I'm not sure if they will fit or not. Anyone know?

I will pull a measurement and get back with you.... From what it looks though height is not the problem.. its more the width of the lights hitting the side bars... you might have to fab up some new light mounts thats what I did .

Is this true of the front bars (bullbars, safari bars, light bars) that we're talking about in this thread? or of exo-cage aswell? I want to get an exo-cage to protect the body, not at the expense of the frame. Thank you in advance!
