i would just do the 199's. 231's are just that much wider, and would have more chances of rubbing on the wheels. the 199's i put on my runner made a HUGE difference - so much so that i don't know if it would be all that noticeable to go to the 231's. also, even the 199's rubbed on my LX450 wheels.

I would agree w/ Andy. Also, just b/c you have 17" wheels doesn't mean you won't want to sell them separately if you ever got rid of your truck. I like the option of knowing I can put on any standard 16" OEM wheels and they'll fit. Just food for thought...

I agree too, 199mm is what I'm heading for......you don't want to have to modify every wheel you put on the truck later.

Go 199mm. Save yourself the time and/or expense of a mod for a mod and get the 199's. You'll not be disappointed.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Awesome! These last 4/5 posts should clear up any other questions people have regarding 199mm vs. 231mm via opinions.

Also, to all the people who are trying to find solutions to different models, I suggest starting a new thread and motioning to this one to avoid confusion.

Thanks

Need brakes bad! Waiting on a set of MT Classics in 16x8 with 3 5/8 BS, anyone know if the 231's will clear the wheel w/o grinding? Would like to go junkyard shopping this weekend and have it all layed out when the rims arrive.

Thanks!

I recently installed a set of slotted/drilled rotors on my rig. Can I still use those if I upgrade to the 199mm calipers?

No, you have to run the matching Tundra rotors to run the Tundra calipers.

On another note, dont the Tundra calipers have larger pistons then the 4Runner calipers?

That had been speculated but I never saw anyone mic them.
I will as soon as I get mine (unless someone beats me to it).

the pistons are the same exact diameter. i didn't mic them, but i did measure them. they are the same diameter. however, the pads have more surface area for contact with the rotor and the rotors are thicker (also a wider caliper casting to fit the wider rotor) to prevent warpage that 3rd gen's see.

Forgot you did that. :pat:

Did you weigh the two rotors as well? I am curious on the weight differences.

The drilled and sloted rotors look cool but they really aren't going to add much except cost (actually if you heat them up too much, often the cross drilling can cause the rotors to crack). My preference would be to just use the standard unmodified Brembo blanks.

I cant comment on the quality, but $79 for two rotors is pretty good. Even if they are awefull at least you are not out a ton of cash.

I just found out that these are fake Brembos. Brembo does not make drilled/slotted rotors.
Oh well... there goes that....

For $79 I'm not the least bit surprised.
Now just go to www.tirerack.com and order yourself a set of the real deal.
