That 1700 model looks mighty nice. 1175 CCA, and a 156 minute reserve capacity. That beats any battery I've ever seen! Military vehicles use this battery for obvious reasons. Now I'm thinking about ditching the dual battery setup altogether and just plunking down the dough on one of these babies.

Only problem is that the 1700 model is pretty big. I'd have to do a good bit of modification to get it to fit right. Might be worth it though.

Is that not big or what? Anybody think I can make that fit?

 

I've heard of a lot of cruiser guys running these batteries. They swear by them... never seen one in person though.

 

How much $ are we talkin?

 

The one in the pic above is $220 shipped. Not much more than an Optima Yellow top at it's highest price. I'm sure if I shopped some more, I could find a better price. The next smaller size is $155 shipped. It's got more the characteristics of a Yellow Top though.

The battery in my 03 is much bigger than the one in my 99.

I may have to do some measuring tonight.

The more I think about this, the more it seems possible. I can turn the battery onto it's side, with the posts facing the firewall to wire it up. The top of the post is threaded for a 3/8" mounting screw for accessories. The only problem is the length... 13". Stock batteries are around 7-8".

 

From what I hear its a great battery. I'm gonna get one, either that one or the smaller on like it if my friend doesnt give me his yellowtop when he sells his honda. From what I've read its an outstanding battery.

 

I knew there had to be a catch somewhere. I just read at another forum (none that we know) that Odysseys need a 14.4 - 14.8V at the battery charge from the alternator to be worth it. I only get 13.8V at the battery. :cry: :pat:

 

Now I'm not so sure that I believe that other forum. After re-reading Odyssey's site, they claim that as long as the battery has a 12.65V charge, you're fine.

If you're looking at the 1200, which I might be, they're as cheap as $110.

Also, I'm trying to figure out what the difference in the code names are... such as PC1700T or PC1700MJT. I think the MJT is a military battery, but the specs look the same. The MJT is also more expensive. I can't figure out why.

 

The "specs" are the same regarding amp hrs, charging etc. True mil spec batteries have a metal jacket that fits over the case of standard version. I have a small Odyessy in my boat...

 

I just went and looked in the truck... no way will that 1700 fit. I think a 1200 would be too small... plus when compared next to a Yellow Top, a yellow top has 120 reserve hours while the 1200 has 90. True, the 1200 has more cranking amps than the Yellow Top, but really... how many do you need? It's the reserve hours that I'm going for. I'll probably get a yellow top instead.

If I were going the dual battery route, I'd get 2 1200's and mount them side by side in the original battery tray. I think it would work. I really have no need for a second battery right now but when I get a winch and my ARB lockers (ARB air compressor), I'll probably upgrade then. It's best to buy both of the batteries brand new anyway.

 

I was considering getting one of those before I got my fridge. Way more power than available than even my big group 31 Optima. I have a friend that installed one of those PC1700's in his 3rd gen 4runner earlier this year. He paid $198. It's installed where the stock battery sits. (and alot bigger than his old red top) He said the terminals were on the correct sides.

BTW, I am thinking of one for the Taco and using the Taco battery in the 4R.

 

im not saying i was ever looking for this thread, just that i never saw it until now...i havnt needed a new battery yet. So i just saw this and thought it was interesting...take that for trying to tell me.
