best oils for 98 s/c 4runner 115k?

I've been using 0w30 amsoil...i read that the redline brand might be slightly better. I'm getting ready to change all the oils(mtr, diffs, tranny,). Manual tranny. any recommendations..?

0w30? Where do you live? What does the owners manual suggest? I would suspect 10-30 on average. I would be concerned with viscosity and film strength on an SC engine. Turbo and high output motors have typically had a little higher viscosity oils. Good you are using synthetics.

Red Line is better. Motul double ester oils are also good.

I use Red Line 15W40 diesel for my 1KZ-TE TDI

0 30 on a supercharged motor? i would go 5w40 or a robust 10w30 (maxlife synpower by valvoline) deff use synthetics and dont be afraid to change the oil either. dont go over 5k PERIOD.. i would def have a sample of your oil sent to lab to have it tested, they can tell you what really works or is not working with the oil of your choice.. other than that you are just guessing

to add to what i was saying. if you want an easy over the counter syn then deff look at penzoil platinum.. PP is very good and rivals M1 and surpasses in some aspects.. me personally i would go with PP if you rather went with an over the counter syn.. i would go 5w40 or 10w30 unless you are in cold regions then the 5w30 would be fine but either way dont go over 5k miles period, shorter if possible..pulled this off bitog.com on a turbo driven motor

For turbo protection M1 is great. I'd give the edge to PP though because it meets HTO-06 and shows better wear numbers overall.

X2

I switch between Valvoline Synpower and Penzoil Platinum depending on the price.
Both work very well but the PP usually comes out with slightly better oil analysis numbers.

I prefer using the "0w" oil in some motors... once its warm it will act just like the other oils but on start up it will get where it needs to much faster.

I use the M1 0w-40 or the German Castrol synthetic 0w-30 in all my cars as well and it makes a noticeable difference in my feedback results from the lab when the oil is tested especially in my NX since its turbocharged and driven hard. I will do the 4runner in a few weeks and it will be its first as it usually had 5w-30 M1 in it...

As for gearbox, if it doesn't get too cold I've had good results with Redline's 250w shockproof... it will protect manual gear boxes pretty well. In the cold it just gets kinda notchy for the first few shifts so you have to let it get up to temp.

Swepco's line works great all around even in colder weather, the high performance one isn't as heavy as the redline but it's good in every other aspect... lots of places swear on it in the older Ferrari gear boxes as it would help with the harshness in shifts.

Hope that helps a bit
