I tried searching for this several times but I didn't find anything about which fuel filter to use when doing a replacement. Should I stick to the genuine toyota filters or does fram just make a nice cheap filter that works just as well?

The overall opinion that I've seen on most threads involving fuel filters seemed to be to stick with OEM. I guess nobody's really tested to see if there was any significant difference between OEM and aftermarket.

I prefer OEM....I have tried others, but I am skeptical of their performance.

 

Go OE, in this case a quality aftermarket and OE cost close to the same anyway.
Fram spelled backward is CRAP.

 

OEM. However, regardless of which filter you choose, time and mother nature (read: rust) may make getting the engine-side compression fitting a b!tch to loosen. I finally had to take my '96 with 220,000 miles to the dealer and have them replace the filter. YMMV. I purchased my filter from trdparts4u.com. Low prices and great customer service.

You might try a wix filter. I have been selling them for about 20 years in the parts business. I dont like fram and would not put them on my trucks. Wix has a high mircon rating as good as oem.

 

the consensus seems to be with OEM. Thanks alot for your inpout guys! I plan on going with a wix fuel filter next time i change oil. thanks tac runner
