Question Bed Liner Roof Rack

Has anybody ever heard of or considered spraying down the large factory crossbars on the roof rack with bed liner. I have mine off right now, I put 54" Yakima traks on and have moded the crossbars off of a crashed 2000 4runner. Thought it might be cool. I was also considering taping the area under the rack off and spraying it as well.

BTW- I just bought my 4runner and have done a lot of work to it, came across this site searching for help, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! Thanks.

If you do choose to put bed liner stuff on them, go with the roll on, not the spray on... i took the carpet out of my 71 buick and thought i'd just use bedliner on the floorpans as protection. I used the spray on stuff and within a week it was chipping off. The roll on stuff is more expensive, but you shouldn't have to worry about it ever coming off

If you coated the underside, it might scrape off the paint on the roof from rubbing, no? Just a thought.

finaly finnished

Just took some pics of my new rack, I ended up hack sawing the difference out of the 2000 4runner crossbars, redrilling the screw holes, put some good ol JB in there for the heck of it, then sprayed the bed liner on, I used a whole can on the two crossbars, 4 coats, so maybe it wont chip. Heres some pics, tell me what ya think.

What kind of liner did you use?

The tracks on my rack are chipping up something fierce, and I'm looking to do something about it.

I have had both of the tracks on my factory rack for my 2000 replaced at two different times. One time the Toyota dealership told me they had to keep the truck because they had some place in town paint the rail. The other time they told me they did it in shop. I got so pissed when I got a different answer the second time I went back for the other rack. It was only a matter of months difference too. So, I knew they were lying about something. But, that's not news for a dealership to do that. Both times it was under warranty. Now that the warranty is gone they are both chipping again. Let me know how the bed liner works out for you. I may have to go that route too.

I bought the stuff from Wal-Mart but as colsoncj pointed out it might not be the best stuff, I had already purchased it when he gave warning. But with 4 coats maybe it will last. You could also take it to someone who dose Line-X or some other spray on. Might cost a bit more, I'll keep posts on how well it holds up, gona be moving to Colorado soon, hauling everything up on an 1800 mile trip aught to be a pretty good test.
