Looks good! Just curious, are they bolted or welded to the frame?

 

Bolted with 4 3/8" X 1" thread cutting bolts on each leg, 2 on the bottom and 2 on the side. So 12 bolts on each side.

If'n yer gonna wheel with Steve, Mark G. and Jeff you can pretty much just go buy a can of touch up paint for that powder coat !

My count wheeling with Steve, Mark and Crawler 976:
Many, many scratches, etc.
One front bumper
One rear bumper
Hell of good times!

My buddy works at a powder coat shop so what would have cost about $200 (he said) was free! Friends are cool

 

Just a quick question, What, if any, affect do the thread cutting bolts have on the strenght of the frame. Do the weaken it in any way or leave it more prone to rust?

Cmar, Frame?'s There are definately 2 camps on this.

One that says weld them on and the other that says never weld to your frame.

From what I know about the effects of heating an already heat treated frame I decided to bolt them.

I also wanted to be able to take them off easily for several reasons.

As far as rust, I live in NM we are lucky to get rain, so rust for me is not an issue.

02Runer, the cool thing is this was the first time Loosehead and I tried to do anything like this.

I think welding on a major structural part like the frame is crazy myself.......just IMHO

Ha Ha Schaefer! All things in due time. I never intended these to be on forever. I figure by the time I get everything else I want it will be time to start replacing the first mods.

I can't wait to see the finished product in person. Just one note, the round is actually 1 3/4" by 1/8" tubing.

I am about half way done painting mine (via rattlecans) and hope to finish the paint tonight or Sat. then bolt them on by Sunday. DIY is cool!

 

What are the benefits to powder coating versus regular paint?

powder coat looks pretty, and costs more.

Rattle cans are cheap but they dont last like the powder coat.

I'm cheap. I used a rattle can.

If you have a friend who works at a powder coat shop, powder coat is actually cheaper...Free even!

It's thick, it forms an actual bond to the metal and it looks really cool!

 

Jim, your sliderz look great.
You guy's did a great job.

Jeff the owner of Badland's contracts with a guy who powdercoats the sliderz for around $40, which is a steal.

Here's a closeup of mine shortly after I got them back.

I was charged however about $75, as I had that 3M tape on there, and the powder coat guy had to do a lot of extra work to get all of that stuff off.

 

This is why you and Loosehead have been quiet for some time now....
