automation transmission problem...need help!

Specs: 2000 4runner limited, auto, 3.4, 4wd, 118k

So I went and picked up my father in laws little 15ft boat today and was bringing it back to the house. I had to stop and get gas on the way home. When I got back in the car and went to leave, the tranny wouldn't shift out of park. I had to use the little by-pass switch to get into gear. It shifts fine from Reverse to Low, but once you put it back in park the shifter locks up again.

Once I got home I checked the tranny fluid and it was good. I also tried disconnecting the battery for a little while, hoping that might work but it didn't. I have a buddy bringing his code reader over after he gets off work. Anyone have any other ideas or know what the problem might be?

it's not the tranny per se. if the bypass switch works, then it is the interlock that is sticking

Makes sense. Any ideas/suggestions on how to fix it?

Might check the brake light switch, or I've even heard that sometimes a brake light problem can cause that, maybe related to the trailer light hook up.

That was it! I guess the trailor shorted out the break lights and blew the fuse. Popped in a new fuse and everything worked just fine. Thanks for the help.
