Automatic Transmission Tranfer Case question

My truck is acting up...1994 $Runner the tranmissin is acting funny. Feels more like the transfer case because sometimes when I shift to drive the truck bucks and whines like as if it were locked into 4hi,,,when it shifts its just like 4wheel drive but the front diff is not locked in. So I have seen conflicting stories here. In the auto tranmission transfer case does it use dextron or gear oil??? Should it be full if there is a good reading on the transmission dipstick????

Does it shift like it has a ˟˟˟˟ kit - hard shift 1st to 2nd (Hard) 2nd to 3rd (pretty normal) 3rd to OD (over revs and then slips into OD)? If so it sounds like the tranny is on it's way out. As for the fluid if the transfer case is an A340H it uses dextron - as they are integrated (tranny and transfer case) A suggestion would be to take it to a Tranny shop and have them check the tranny out for you and they will tell you what they think it is....

You can't check the transfer case level with the transmision dipstick.
There are drain/fill plugs on it like a manual gearbox.

Time to sell this POS...it acts and sounds like it is locked into 4low/4hi.....the hubs upfront do not engage but the transfer squeels like its locked and the max speed is 30-35 MPH....this is the 3rd time it has happened...I drained the trans completely put fresh juice in it no change....crawled uder the b.tch and f.cked with the linkange..was able to change the transfer(transmission) to 2 Hi ...I was totaly stoked thought the problem was fixed...later jump in the truck and the transfer/trans problem happened again....f.cked with the linkage and it had no effect.....I am so p.ssed!!! I spent the afternoon pulling all the music components and giving the truck a deep clean to sell it....this is my first Runner..I have owned 2 Pickups and 1 Tacoma and I think I am going back to the truck family..this is the worst gas guzzling POS toyota I have owned..Give me a 22r or 22RE any day!!! I kinda liked the runner cuz no one asked me to help them move but 250 miles to a tank of gas jimminy christmas!!!!

Just a word or two of advice. Posting on an internet forum to get help for a problem is one thing. Coming on here and using every imaginable curse word to explain why you think your truck sucks is pretty immature. This place is a great resource for technical help and pretty much anything mechanical relating to our trucks. It might help if you started a thread that described your problem accurately and then waited until people had time to post responses. Stating that you "f.cked with the linkage" and that your truck is a "POS" is not getting you anywhere. Sometimes it takes more than a day or two to figure something out. That's life.

I agree the language could be better but the poor guy is obviously just frustrated.
He didn't attack anyone so it was a fair rant I think.

Jamie,
I don't believe I stated that he attacked anyone. I was simply making an observation of how he was approaching the problem. And I suggested how he might go about it the next time.

Ok my friends I do appologize...I have put a lot of time and bread into this truck and I am at my wits end now...the PO really abused this truck..should have known better...it was a socker mom daily driver...although it looks nice on the exterior..she has been beat up mechanically.... I just feel that this is the worst Toyota product I have ever owned, and after talking with many other owners I think the general opinion is the same...the 3.0 is deffinatley a flop. Thanks to all of you who reminded me to keep a level head...the language I agree was not the best choice I am just so darned frustrated. Golly I sure wish I have my old 1985 Pickup. Jeepers was that a good truck. Shucks,I think it had more power than the 3.0....got love them 4 bangers!!!
