Does anyone else use the AutoEnginuity scan tool? I can't get mine to communicate with my 4Runner. I called the tech support line, but they keep telling me "it's something with your truck", "check your voltage coming through the OBDII connector", etc. I've checked everything. The thing doesn't work on my truck. It works fine on my other cars.

 

That would indicate it's the truck... and they're right, check for voltage at the connector. I have an equus, and it turns on automatically when connecected, if everything is working right... If you don't have power at the conn, check the fuses as the most likely, and easy, issue (sorry, don't know which fuse -- somebody?) Beyond that...? Are you throwing a CEL?

I was throwing a CEL for bad plugs/wires at the time. I followed the tech's suggestion and checked the power at the connector. I was getting power at the connector. After fixing the plugs/wires, I retested the vehicle, but still could not get the thing to connect. I checked all the fuses - they're fine.

I'm thinking it's something with the software and this truck, hence the reason they have software updates for certain vehicles from time to time. Tech claims there should be no problems with the version I have (4.2). He suggested I try it on another Toyota. Hmmm...

 

Yeah, all I can say is try another Toyota, OBD II, if you can find somebody to let you connect... You can always go to autozone and ask them to pull the code for you and clear it ... If their's works, then maybe it is your tester. Out of guesses now.

Even with my Auterra I only came across one truck I couldn't get to connect (it was a Dodge Ram 2500) but finally had it traced to one of the connectors had come dislodged in the OBD connector on the truck. Usually there is a setting you can change to get it to connect (such as fast/slow data acquisition etc) but your 97 should be the older version so it should work. I would try another OBD reader on it and see if it connects.....if not you found your issue.....if it does you also found your issue.
