Are the auto rranny's in the 2001 Tacomas reliable?

I am looking at a 2001 double cab 4X4 with the auto tranny. Are there any issues with these tranny's? I am trying to decide between a new 2006 double cab with a 6 speed or this 2001 double cab 4X4 with the auto. There is a huge price difference (16K). The 01' runs well just needs s few things done to it to get it in perfect running order. But having never had a auto in a Toyota, I wanted to know what people think of them.

Very durable unless supercharged (without a VB upgrade) or used to tow a lot without a trans cooler. Otherwise they are good to go (given that regular maintenance intervals were followed).

I have an automatic and have done a valve body upgrade and added a tranny cooler. The tranny is holding 300+ HP at the rear wheels and a lot of lead footed abuse without the first problem. No way would I trade it for a manual.
