Armrest Mod!

Ok, so the stock armrest in 4runners are terrible! So I started searching around for an armrest that would fit in its place. I took the dimensions of the stock armrest which are 5"W/ 11"L/ 1.5"H and compared them to the armrest out of a Honda Passport which are 7"W/ 11"L/ 3.5"H. A perfect fit! 7" W is the most you can go without rubbing the driver/passenger seats when open. 11" is an exact match.

ultimately I wanted some real padding..a 2" increase from stock!

So the next step was to track one down. I was able to find one for free today. Unfortunately its not the right color but it was perfect for the experiment. All I had to do to make them fit was to swap out the mounting brackets.

Note I only used 4 screws. 2 go in the middle where the stock 2 screw are removed from. The other 2 go on either side of the latch. These holes were already present on my armrest, but were not in use. It is not necessary, nor recommended to place screws in the other 4 available screw holes.

Then the only thing that's left is to install! Now if you are looking for one of these armrest you want a padded armrest from a 98-02 Honda Passport. They come in 4 colors Tan, Beige, Gray and Black. The color I have is gray(not the color you want). Tan is the color you want because it will match the center console. Beige is pretty close to matching the color of leather seats, but seems to be a shade or two light. So anyways, on with the finished product!

Clean it well with something like TSP and then hit it with spray vinyl dye to match the colour...sorry, color...of your interior.

Great idea, I always thought the armrests needed to be just a tad bit bigger. Kudos!

Props for trying something new. I'd like to see it when you get it color matched.

That's not a bad idea bg. I'm just getting used to having an armrest in mine. Have'nt really noticed a width problem (I almost never carry pax ) but a little thicker padding would be nice.
I may have to keep an eye out in the yards for one of those passports.

Very nice! I like how it allows enough room for both the driver's and passenger's arm...yet has the factory look.

Would you happen to know what year Passport it came from?

so shouldn't the same year of Isuzu Rodeo work as well? They are pretty much the same car, right?

Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo? Don't think so but there may be some outside supplier parts commonality between them.

I thought of this thread when we had to put out a fully engulfed Rodeo. The whole thing was burned, so thats one less armrest to snag!!
