Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has tried 'installing' a handsfree phone in their rig. Interested in where you hid the box and what mic position you found works best.

I just found the Parrot BlueDrive kit, it automatically connects to your phone via bluetooth so no connecting or fumbling around.

I'm thinking of building it in to the headliner where the Homelink would normally be, but can't think of a good position for the mic to go.

Any ideas?

How big is the mic? If you can, run it up through the steering column, and put it right behind the steering wheel. Just an idea.

the previous owner of my 4runner put the mic between the plastic trim and the headliner to the left of his head. he said it worked really well from there.

It's cool as its a small, cheap cigarette lighter box rather than the more expensive build-in units

 

How can I tell if my cell phone will work?
I have the LG VX6000.

 

If it supports Bluetooth 'handsfree' or 'headset' profile, it will work. I can send a list of the phones that they recommend, but basically any Bluetooth capable phone will work.

 

This is JUST what I was looking for but
I dont think my cell phone is supported.

 

Jabra make a Bluetooth convertor for $20. Dunno if it helps you

It's kinda defeats the idea of not having to plug the phone into anything to make it work , but if you just care about the handsfree bit then it may be ok.

 

Check out this pic of my Nokia handsfree. The speaker is in the drivers footwell and the mic is where the a-pillar meets the roof.

I own a Cellular Phone Store here in Telluride.

LGVX6000 is not supported by anything but LG, I do not recommend this product.

Bluetooth is generally a GSM product so if you have Verizon, you are SOL.

the mic works best on the visor, if you put it on the drivers left hand side you may run into problems with air noise if your window is down. Speaker works nicely under the dash near your gas pedal leg. Bluetooth is great, but keep in mind that unlike traditional cradles that your phone plugs into, bluetooth does not charge and keep your battery full in use. I prefer a cradle so your phone is stationary and not bouncing around the car, and stays fully charged.

I want a external mic that i can run somewhere.

YES...

LG is nice enough to make a hands free product for the 6000,

as far as i am aware it is the only one available for the 6000, and i believe it retails for 299.00

hope price isn't a concern.

A lot of the LG products are like that, i don't sell to many of them for that reason, especially since there are so many aftermarket products for manufactures like, motorola and nokia.

Hope this helps, swing into your nearest cellular store that carries lg products or better yet do some searching around on the net. just keep in mind you are looking for the OEM LG hands free kit.
