Yeah, it wasn't cheap!! Del time is very short. As I said before, I have gotten 2 engines in less that 24/hr.s w/ these guys. The price is high, but they are the best. These are the guys Toyota dealers turn too, when they need an engine. Also, these are new engines. The block is old, but everything else is new. New valves, pistons, rings, camshaft, seals, pulleys...Other companies try and use old parts if they can, and just machine them. Also the warrenty is great. They even offer roadside assistance. Great customer service too. If you want an engine that'll give you 200,000+ miles go with Jasper. If you are only running it for 2 years, go with someone else. Also after searching the web and different sites, I found Jasper engines seem to make more power. People notice a gain in acceleration, and with new/oversized cams, and valves I don't doubt there is a little gain there. I'll still be breaking her in for a few weeks, so dragin' quite yet! So far though, I have been very pleased with them.

i've got a blown head gasket that the dealership is gonna charge me $1800 to replace so i figure this could be a good time to swap out an engine. a new 3.0 sounds nice but you guys know of some good places to get 3.4's? possibly local in colorado? i called up yotayard but they don't have anything right now, she said they're in the middle of rebuilding a 22re right now.

The problem is, you need a 3.4L and the tranny and the electronics...AND they have to come off the same truck. Not too easy, and defiantly not cheap. That is why I never went that route. Just me though.

I've heard anywhere from $4500.00-5000.00 and up from there. For a used engine.

edit: From Off-road solutions:

FOR AN AUTO:

Here is a list of the necessary parts from the donor vehicle. These parts are NOT included in our kit and will need to be provided by the customer from the SAME 5VZ-FE-equipped vehicle with an automatic transmission. If the 3.4L conversion is being performed on a 4WD vehicle, the donor vehicle will also need to be a 4WD. New parts can be used; however, used parts are most commonly used.

5VZ-FE long-block- new, remanufactured, or used
Both exhaust manifolds and crossover pipe (unless using a header system)
Intake manifold
Intake plenum with throttle body
All items on motor related to fuel injection such as injectors, fuel rail, vsv's, sensors, throttle body, etc.
Alternator and bracketry
Power steering pump and bracketry
A/C compressor and bracketry
Spark plug wire set
Cylinder coil packs (3)
Engine (injector) wiring harness
ECU
Igniter assembly
Intake system- tubing, air box, air filter. If upgrading ORS can provide any upgraded system on the market.
Evaporative canister (optional)
Evaporative vapor pressure sensor
Evaporative vapor pressure VSV
Evaporative purge VSV
Starter assembly
Air flow meter
Oxygen sensors (pre and post catalytic)
Automatic transmission assembly w/ torque converter
Shifter assembly (floorboard)
Transmission cooler hard lines (2)
Transmission lower inspection (dust) cover
Drive plate and mounting hardware
Torque converter x drive plate mounting bolts
Gear driven transfer case - 23 spline, top shifting
Rubber mount from gear driven transfer case
Miscellaneous necessary hardware
If purchased used, the price of these parts can vary. On average we see this package sell for about $3700 from a low mileage vehicle.

FOR A STD:

These parts are NOT included in our kit and will need to be provided by the customer from a 5VZ-FE equipped vehicle. New parts can be used, however, used parts are most commonly used.

5VZ-FE longblock- new, remanufactured, or used

Evaporative canister (optional)
Evaporative vapor pressure sensor
Evaporative vapor pressure VSV
Evaporative purge VSV
Starter assembly
Air flow meter
Flywheel with mounting hardware
If purchased used, the price of these parts can vary. On average we see this package sell for about $3000 from a low mileage vehicle.

Then you have to pay for the kit as well.

•3.4L Full Conversion Kit - '89-'95 Truck/4Runner
$1625.00 ORS-EC020 Manual Transmission
$2195.00 ORS-EC022 Auto Transmission
This kit includes all NEW parts necessary for the conversion. This kit is VERY complete and is designed to prevent the customer from going to the parts store 20 times during the conversion. The idea is to literally open the box and perform the conversion with high quality new parts. These parts are package priced to save the customer money in the long run. We highly suggest the Full Kit.

Great kit, and I hear these guys are great ...just a lil' pricey for me.

They do have the Jasper engines for sale there too.

FWIW toyota-parts.com quoted me $2300 for a short block and that's a factory new Toyota engine.

Be sure to check! I just started working through this same issue for a friend, and a buddy is pretty clear that I should first take the truck to a _NUMBER_ of dealers and have them look at it.

Dealers have been known to replace engines due to the head gasket issue on 3.0's. You really want to take it to a dealer, have them look at it and see what they say. If they don't say anything about the head gasket, then take it to another one.

It's worth the time.. It may save you a couple of grand on an engine.

poboy, did that 3.4 come with all the parts from that same vehicle as well? cause as hockeytown illustrated, there is a lot of stuff that has to come from the same vehicle in order to do the swap. if so that's an incredible deal, i'm gonna have to start lookin around a lot

The engine was a 3.4L which went into my old '96 4Runner which also had the 3.4L. I didnt do a 3.0-3.4 conversion. I was just giving another location to look for a 3.0L engine. That website is a database of thousands of "automobile recyclers". Im sure you could work something out to get everything you need to do a 3.4L conversion. The place that sold me the 3.4L included various wiring, alternator, starter, and a few other items that I didnt use. Pretty much anything that bolted onto the engine came with it.

How much do you guys think it would cost me to have a remanufactured Jasper engine put in my 4runner? I have the 3.0 with 275,000 miles on it and dont want to part with my truck when the engine goes eventually goes. 5 grand for a shop to install in with full 3 year warranty??????? Any good shops here in Colorado Springs that specialize in toyota engines? Ive heard there was, but I cant find em.

You may also want to consider www.orientengine.com Thats where I got my motor. Several others have also got one from them and I have not heard a single complaint yet.

I looked at Orient Engines, but the problem is that I have never heard any feedback on them until now. I may open a new thread specifically about orient engine reviews. How miles miles do you have on yours so far, and did you install in yourself. If not how much would something like that typically cost from an certified installer?

No need to make a thread on it. Just search it. There are many threads on them as is. I currently only have about 7k miles on mine. I did not install mine myself cause I didn't have the room for downtime. I paid someone to do it but he did not charge me a normal rate. He charged me $400 acuse I knew him well. I am sure that is a lot cheaper then anyone will install it for though.
