Anyone know how to make a shift knob.....

I want to drill out a baseball and use it as a shift knob. Does anyone know what size bit I should use and what sort of thread/hardware I need to put inside so that it fits?

TIA

what i would do is hollow out the ball (since its full of material), and find a lock-nut (with the plastic insert) that will thread onto the shifter, then fill the ball with something like resin, to lock the nut inside the ball. as for the hole size.. whatever allows the nut to fit.

Get a M12x1.25 Lug nut (I believe thats hte right one), and insert that into the ball. Lock it into place with epoxy (the lugnut to the ball)

Yep, M12x1.25 is the thread pitch of the Toyota shift knobs.

I made a hand carved maple shift knob for my VW many years ago using a threaded insert:

Speaking of Shift Knobs, AutoZone has NEON knobs for $.89! (Yes, that's eighty nine cents)
