anyone have sound system in the 4runner?
#501
Lol sure can. Not loud enough to really rattle stuff yet on such low pwer tho.
As for why. I really enjoy loud music lol. Ill admit, Its a strange hobby and most ppl don't get why ppl. I don't really do much with the 4runner anyways.if I really need to haul stuff I have a 95 t100 parked in the garage

I had just one DD 12" 9512 with a DD M3 (~3KW) in the back of my 96 4runner and it metered 146db on the TL in the right box (3.5 Cu ft tuned to 33Hz w/ 144 sq in of port area). It looks like you could use a whole lot more port area for that amount of sub man! My single little 12" had more area than what you got! Slot port it and you'll get a much better reponse when cranked. Small ports make the box act more like leaky sealed box if air velocity gets too high in the port column. Larger square area ports also have a higher acoustical coupling to the air to a certain extent (it's a complicated equation, but bigger is usually better within reason).

Ok, I will play! It was cheap because it is what I had left over from previous stereo installs. Nothing special, but is will still rattle the hell out of your teeth.

It's good to see people still loud & proud! Back in highschool (late 90's) I ran two Digital Designs 15" 9515's in a 8.5CuFt box tuned to 21 hz with 2 MMATS modified D300HC's in a station wagon (around 4KW). I could knock video's off the walls at blockbuster with that setup. This was still back when small sealed boxes were still the rage for SPL & just about everyone said my setup would not work & would not meter good, but I never lost a competition even to those walled up molester vans with 6 x 12" PPI flat cones. Also, most people said I was stupid for putting so much time & effort into something so pointless, but it all lead to a VERY profitable career in Engineering for me. Keep it up man!!!

Don't know what DD was like back then (or now for that matter, never ran em) but that seems like crazy low tuning for DD subs. that's crazy low for any sub for that matter lol. u won straight spl with a box tuned to 21??!?!?!?
yea, most people tell me i'm kind of crazy for what i'm doing. I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on this current setup...but hey, it's my money, i enjoy it and play my system respectfully
are you saying i need more port area? I'm running a series tuned 6th order. front port is 630 sqin lol. think i need to shrink it down a bit though xD
#504
oh ya, as for the people with small systems. not everyone is crazy about stupidly loud bass. or wants to spend the money to get it. it's all about what you enjoy and are willing to spend
having a lil 8" sub is always better than stock!!!

System is back in my 4runner. I'm using an old orion H2 15" 2500watts sub, box is 3 cubes tuned to 35hz. I'm trying to blow it up lol I'm gonna build a new ported box for my two 15" dc lvl4XL.
the build isn't done yet..

the amp needs alot of power. that's why i use two batteries in the back along with 270amps alternator
glad i didn't sell my h/o alt!

The orion h2 15" blew up. I now have DC audio two 15" subs. I had to use my old ported box because I didn't have time to build a new sub box. The current box is plenty loud anyway. The rear view mirror is about to come apart

well i upgraded from just the 50 dollar replacement speakers in the last month or so..
I won a set of 2 JBL GTO628 2 way speakers now in the front doors
I bought a set of 4" Infinity Kappas in the rear doors now
got a JVC double din deck, bought because it looked the best in the dash haha
and my cousin gave me his 2 12" Orion Cobalts in a pre-fab ported box
Also got a Hifonics HFi100.2 400 watt amp fro the orions and man are they louder than i thought they would be for being such a low end sub! but the box is huge and Im thinking about downsizing to one 10 that the HF amp can power plenty well. but i may get 2 SA-12s if my buddy would ever give me a friendly discount on haha

Good god...thought it's nice to see someone doing it right with the car audio. I love me some Sundown Audio, probably going to pick up one of their amps as soon as money allows. Right now I have:
Mach 5 Audio ML-65's and Seas Excel tweeters up front
Mach 5 Audio IXL10 dual 2 ohm
Arc Audio XXK 2100 and 4050
My Arc Audio XXK 1500 died
and is not repairable since it uses a Tripath chip.

So I have done some research on this site and through google to find the specs and materials listed for building a proper sub box. However I have found some useful info however I would like to use a recommendation from a fellow yotatecher as for a good site for reference on the custom box I wish to create. Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks guys! Oh oh, and to help the box would be of a wood/particle board style build, no fiberglass for me! Thanks.

i like birch. what you'll get is birch veneer but good enough. stuff i used is 11 ply, 5 -7 will work as well. the less voids the better. lighter more rigid than mdf. what subs do you plan on using? amp for power? music preferences?

So I wanted to make a setup back there that could house some rear speakers as there is no factory mounting location for rear speakers, a sub, most likely a 10" do to size constraints (I dont want to be forced to slam the front seat into the dash to fit a sub, Im 6'1 as it is...) and a clean spot for my amps to be mounted.
I honestly listen to a huge variety of music, from conscious underground hip hop to melodic death metal to swing, to the blues... The system wont be designed as a powerhouse to blow peoples clothes off, just a small well rounded set up to improve the sound quality.
So knowing proper materials , dimensions for subs, padding/sealing etc before I make it would help me build a decent quality box for a decent quality system, not top of the line.

My system was partly in the 99 4runner when I got it and partly from the stuff I took out of my 87 4runner.
Already in the 99 :
Pioneer AVIC-U310BT
Stock front and rear speakers
From my 87 :
2 10" Orion XTR Series 2 in a bandpass box
Jensen 400 watt amp (way under power for the subs)
Got the amp and the box from some guy when I went to buy a Jacobs ignition system from him. The set up was just sitting in his garage and he only wanted $50 for it.
Also from my 87 but not yet installed :
Pioneer DEX-P1R (LOVE this deck)
Pair of Pioneer 3-way 6X9s
Need another amp to run the DEX-P1R as the deck has no power outs and I have no idea where to mount the 6X9s. They were mounted in boxes on the roll bar in the 87 but the 99 doesn't have a roll bar and I'm not sure i want to cut up the rear door panels to install them.
Also need to Dynamat the truck.
