Any way to tell 4runner year by look?

It tells you what they changed in each year with pics of each model.

yeah, friends think I'm crazy... they'll see another 4Runner, and say "ooh look, a 4Runner" and I say "ooh a 97" "how the heck do you know, its the same as yours"

.....3rd gens can be told from year to year if you know what to look for.
they don't really list external differences on the 4runner on that site for 3rd gens. i click on each year and it is all interior stuff.

I know that 86's have a grill that is seperated 3 times, while 87's have a grill that is seperated 2 times (vetically with the plastic bar thingies.)

My first response is similar to the above - just open your eyes. Then I thought, perhaps this is like my wife asking me which black pump goes better with her dress. IT was obvious to her, but to me....
