Any 3rd Gens with a Full Size Roof Rack?
I currently have a Wilderness rack (52" x 44"), but I'm trying to find a full size roof rack. Something similar to the full size racks on 60 and 80 searies Land Cruisers. The next problem would be how to mount it to the 4Runner since I lack rain gutters and the stock rack mounts only run halfway down the roof.

I was thinking of doing this also. I was basically going to buy a used 4runner roof rack then just mount the tracks in front of the stock tracks so the rails could run front to back. As far as mounting the tracks to the roof, i didnt get that far yet.

That was part of my plan when I was going down the expedition road. I had even gotten so far as identifying the appropriate mounts for the rack I was looking at and was mentally preparing myself for drilling through the roof. With good gaskets and stuff, I am sure it would seal well enough.
The thing that drove me away from it is the fact that I see a noticeable difference in gas mileage when I run my 1/2 rack, which I easily take on and off. So I said screw it. I never really need that much roof space anyway.

Full size, can you better define Full size?
I have a currie roof rak, mounted into the Stock roof rails. The currie rack comes with two bars that run from passenger to driver side when holding the basked. To more evenly spread the load, I ordered an extra set of bars, so now i Have 4 bars running from passenger to driver side. The only thing I don't like about the currie basket is the port holes in front. They really make a wild howling noise as your moveing down the road. I put some thin sheet metal across the front of the holes, and this help to reduce the noise.

A full size rack, in my mind, is one that runs from the front to the rear of the vehicle. Something similar to this nice LC in this link:

That's what I thought. The only way to get around that would be to have some custom mounts fabbed up that would be bolted to the roof. I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. I might have to learn to live with the limited storage space and do a better job of packing my gear.
