Question any '03's with new intake?

I have been thinking about buying a new intake and wonder if any of you guys with '03's have installed on yet. If you have what kind and did you like the performance of it.

by far the best intake will be the deckplate mod.

Cheapest and most efficient. Unless you start doing some major performance upgrades, that mod will show almost no improvement. (okay maybe like 1hp if that but nothing significant that everyone will say "hell yeah! that's a kick ass mod!").

So just go w/ the deckplate mod (i myself haven't done any perf mods yet.... )

the v8's keeping me pretty happy right now! hehe

I totally agree that the V8 is strong without a mod. I am totally happy with it and was just curious. I still get excited when I get to drive somewhere and I already have 6K on it. What a great truck!!!

Hey testrider,

There is some info regarding the deckplate mod in the Tech section under performance

A search for the word "deckplate" will bring up more info than you ever wanted to know about it. I've done the search for you, click here for the results

Al

P.S. No 2003 deckplate write-up available yet that I have seen. Who's volunteering??

Thanks Momo and HBoss,

I appreciate your info. Since mine is a 2003 so I guess I'll have to wait for further instructions... :-)

I might volunteer... :-)

Mike (testrider):

The deck plate mod is the same for all the versions of toyotas.

All you need is the deck plate which can be bought at any marine(boat) store.

The instructions are relatively the same as you just need to cut out a hole the same size as the deck plate itself. and then plut it back in and you're done Just have to figure out what size deck plate you want..

Good luck! make sure you post up pix!!!

I was looking at a 03. I don't see a lot of value in cutting a hole to let hot air from the engine compartment into the air box. The diameter of the tube connecting to the fender wall looks to be the same size as the tube on the other side of the air box. I don't think you are going to get any more air into the motor than what it is getting already. I think you might do more harm than good.

What does look like it would do some good would be to replace the corrugated plastic tube and air box with an intake that doesn't have so many bends and is made of straight tubing.
