Antenna Question
I have a motorized antenna on my 94 4runner and I want to switch over to a fixed powered antenna. My question, is the power for the stock antenna always hot or just powered when it is extending/retracting?

Praufet,
I have just replaced my power antenna with the fixed mast antenna. I never heard such a fixed powered antenna. The fixed mast antenna I installed this weekend has no power, it is basically a solid antenna bolted on the bracket where the power antenna was bolted on. Here is the part # 86300-39145 and cost me $21.50 at the dealer. This antenna is sweet and I don't hear no motor winding up or down. The power antenna has a connector inside the fenderwell, you have to disconnect that connector, loosen the chrome nut on top of the fender, once the nut is off, unbolt the motor and pull it out of the fender well. But before you do this, don't forget to disconnect the cable from the back of your radio. You are going to remove the glove box compartment, the dash that hold the ashtray, and the dash that hold the stereo. It is a piece of cake to switch from power to fixed mast antenna.

I guess I really didn't describe my antenna right. I got it from autozone, it's an amplified antenna, hence the need for power, and was way under $20.

I have an aftermarket stereo, and the existing antenna stop extending/retracting after it was installed.

BTW, you need to put your signature so we know what kind of rig you have. Put your vehicle year, model, tranny, and a little description.

praufet, when you put in the aftermarket stereo, did you connect the amp lead to the antenna power? i think this is what i did to make the power ant.work. basically, the power ant. needs the signal to activate the motor. when you turn off the stereo, the amp lead turns off, and then the antenna drops.
