Another gauge question

I was reading on a different toyota newsgroup just now, and they were talking about a temp gauge readings, and said it is abnormal for the needle to be at halfway with the heater off, and that it should be at 1/4 at all times unless the heater is on. Mine has never been that low, and it has a new water pump, radiator, and thermostat, all of these parts are under 1-1/2 years old. What do you guys think?

thats what i thought.... if it was that low.... the coolant temperature sensor would have the engine revving high, and it's normally at about 900 when warmed up. On the flip side of that, if it was getting hot, the idle would run abnormally low... but i don't get any of that behaviour.. just thought i would run it past some other people since i admittadly don't know much.

I agree, after warm up, my temp gauge sits at just below 1/2 all the time.

Ditto! My truck is basically brand new (1k miles) so I'm pretty sure it's working right
