Another Engine Code P1135 Question

Hello all. I just purchased a 2002 double cab prerunner with the 2.7L motor. It was a good deal with almost 70K on the odometer.

i bought a Toyota for reliability and minimal maintenance. Things usually don't break or typically wear-out on these trucks.

My Engine light came on two days ago while driving with a load of dirt (Not happy!). I pulled the EFI fuse to reset. It did not come on again until the next day afternoon during normal driving, but the weather has been a little hotter than normal, 85 degrees F. Not happy again. Brought it by Advance to read my code and got the P1135.

Understand this code is for A/F sensor prior to cat. Costs roughly $160 for Denso brand. I pulled the EFI fuse again and so far today, the engine light is off.

Question: If it truely was the A/F sensor, wouldn't the check engine light come on immediately as appose to intermitten?

My plan is to check for voltage at A/F harness, check resistance across sensor. If all is good, clean the MAF, double check for vacumm leaks, and wonder.

I hope it is a straight forward decision.

Thanks!

DT

got some values

checked the resistance of A/F sensor at cold. Got approx. 4.0 ohms. Voltage at harness when key in the on position: 9 volts.

This should be 12 volts, but 9 pretty close.

I guess the only way to know what's going on is get real time numbers when the car is running in open and closed loop operation.

Any clue is greatly appreciated!

honestly it sounds about right they go out slowly, you do not have to get a DENSO part and if you go to http://www.urdusa.com/index.php?cPath=9_13 they have better prices!!!

to close the loop, I replaced the A/F sensor and the problem seems to be fixed. Also, gas mileage has gotten a little better. Strange that this went out at 70K.

Thanks!
