Are there any down sides to using an amsoil air filter. I thought I read some where that the oil used on them might mess with a sensor or something. I have used k&n filters in other cars that I have had and have never had a problem. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

 

only think that makes me worry is too much oil with filter. I installed it fresh out of the package and i've had to wipe oils on the bottom of the intake box from time to time. i've seen some trace of oil spatters around the intake housing and I'm always wondering if some got on the MAF sensor...well my truck runs fine and i suppose its okay but u know.....

 

I have been running the AMSOIL filter longer then most anyone here. Never been a problem.

Now, I do think that AMSOIL over oils them at the factory. Most of these filters are installed flat and it would not be a problem, but on our trucks it is tilted up on its edge so gravity tends to pull some of the oil more toward the bottom of the filter. So, what I do is I put a stack of paper towels on the garage floor and then put the filter on that and then more paper towels on top and then squeeze the filter between them and that gets out any excess oil.

Also, it is a good idea to rotate the filter 180* every month or so so the oil will be kept evenly distributed in the filter instead of pooling all at the bottom.

Like I said, I have never had a problem and don't ever expect one. I run the AMSOIL air filter in three of my vehicles and if they made for my other one it would be in there also.

Most of these problems you hear about is a result of over oiling by the owner when he cleans the filter. This is one time where more is not better. Once guy used over half of a bottle on his filter and did have a problem. He tried to blame the filter, but it was his own stupidity. Basic common sense or the lack there of comes into play here.

One thing that is for sure, there is no other filter that filters better without degrading performance.

gadget that's EXACTLY what i did, i thought i was the only one turning the filter upside down, in a few months, i'd have to clean my filter and i'll make sure i wont over-oil them

 

Is the only way to get my hands on an amsoil air filter is to become a preferred customer? Not trying to sound cheap or anything, but I don't really wanna pay the extra membership fee cuz I don't plan on getting anything else from them, but I also want the discounted price.

 

how often do you guys clean your amsoil filter? mine's been in there since about christmas time... (about 8 months and 10,000 miles) however, when i take it out to check on it, it doesn't look dirty at all.

how do i know when to clean it?

yea you dont need to join anything just know your part# and order online it should be around $45 i dont remember exactly how much tho

 

I cleaned mine at 1 year and 20k miles. It still looked clean, but I was getting ready to do the deckplate mod and thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and clean it while I had everything apart.
