i was on my back from morning class, heard this horrible screeching noise and the charge light lit up on my dash. pulled over, and it seems the pulley seized up on the alternator, because the belt was smoking. took out my knife, cut the belt off and drove the rest of the way home, only like 20 minutes. just finished putting on a new alternator and belt. it really scared me at first, it made a sound very similar to when my brake line busted and the fluid was all over the rotor. just thought i had to share this little mechanical mishap. im off to work now.

 

That sucks, glad you were able to limp home. The alt on my car died a few years ago and left me stranded on the I-35 exit ramp in downtown Austin during rush hour. Not fun.
