This thread: Alarm ECU locations sez my 1998 4Runner alarm ECU should be under my drivers seat. There's a CD changer under there but nothing else. Any idea wazzup? I have power door locks, and my truck came with a non-working remote, I'd like to program it.

 

What does your remote look like? If two buttons (lock and unlock), you probably have the dealer-installed RS3000 system, and the brain should be under the driver seat. Someone might have relocated it to put the changer under there. Check under the carpet too.

If your remote has 3 buttons (lock, unlock, rear window), you have the factory-installed system, which has no separate ECU. Programming is different between the two systems.

The other option is that you have an aftermarket alarm...in which case I can't help you!

 

post a picture of your alarm remote... if it's an RS3000, then i have a spare brain, BNIB
