Akebono Tundra Brake Pads - Part Numbers
I did the Tundra brake swap almost a year ago and have been completely happy w/ the performance except one irritating thing; the brake pads. I used Raybestos fully-loaded calipers b/c this was the part number provided by someone that had just done the mod when I wanted to do it. (At the time, there was confusion on which calipers to use.) BTW, I have the smaller 199 mm calipers but good luck finding this on any after-market part.
The Raybestos pads worked fine but upon start-up squeeled like I needed new pads. It was irritating but also embarrassing at the work parking lot and on occassion, at the valet. I decided to get some Akebono pads after reading good reviews on them. The tough part was there were no part numbers as the Tundra brake pads have two different part numbers based on the two different types of calipers used.
I took a chance and ordered a set at Rockauto and got them for $40 plus $7 shipping. The part number is AKEBONO Part #ACT812. Just had them installed and so far so good. The bad thing is I did notice the squeel but I'm hoping that once they're broken in, this will disappear.
BTW, the Raybestos pads ate away at some of my rotor and required a resurface. My buddy said that these are some of the worst pads out there and, Bamachem even mentioned that these are the same pads that the brake shops guarantee for life since it's much more profitable for thse shops to sell new rotors versus new pads. My two cents and I hope this works for others looking for pads.
