I finally got the paint from the dealer today. The dials match the color of the truck. I will be installing the hubs sometime this week.

 

Nice, not far behind you in the conversion. I am waiting on some $$$ so I can get the 54mm nuts and washers so mine can go on.

You don't need the 54mm nuts for this conversion (ADD to Manual hubs). I went and bought the big socket because I thought the same thing. I still haven't used it...

 

yep, but check out lowe's for the bolts and washers on the hub dial cap...I think it's M6x1.0x18 or by 20. They're stainless and look way nice

 

I just finished my hubs over the weekend. The stainless screws are M6-1.00x16mm Hex Cap Screws and washers, in clear plastic bags with "HILLMAN" on them.

 

Ditto that. I had wirewheeled my stock cap bolts. They looked goood for about 2 days. After that they rusted and looked like poo. The stainless look way better. Don't crank the dial bolts too hard, they break... :pat:

 

I agree with Cebby...I snapped one off and was stressing using the screw extractor to get it out, but all went well. EOD..Those black hubs look clean! nice work

 

AW1090: Thanks, I painted them with engine enamel and baked them for about an hour at 180-200 degrees. They turned out good, hopefully they will last a few years.

 

I did mine in the orig. red and black...I'm hoping they hold up. I did bake them, but only used the rustoleum spray. We'll see...hey, do you use the black covers over the outside? sorry, I don't know the correct term for them....the black center caps used with the ADD system

Since its such a nice day here in the Burgh im going to lowes right now and get the new bolts and washers. I will be installing the hubs this afternoon.

 

Andrew: No I did not reuse the hub covers as you would have to modify them by cutting the center portion out, which I didn’t want to spend time on. In my opinion, it would be cosmetic to put them back on and I prefer them off the front now. I didn’t redo my dials in red because I have a white 4Runner and all black looks better, plus I didn’t have any red paint.

That's cool....I chose to keep them off too just cause I didn't want water being held around my hubs if it could happen with those things on. good deal sludge......get some pics up when you get them on lookin all nice and shiney

 

HUBS ARE INSTALLED


Took me about 1hr to do and super easy. Went on a test drive around the block and i could feel the difference. I can feel it in the acceleration and even in breaking.Almost like im not towing an anchor behind me

Yea, but Ive got the AUTO hubs not the ADD hubs.

Yea Ive looked at quite a few different conversion how to's. Toyota wants $12.00 for each nut and like 6 for each washer. Is there an aftermarket?

 

Go to Protrux, SoCal. We have so many hub parts it's rediculous. We might be able to hook you up.
