Air horn upgrade
#21
great, keep us posted. For your own safety, I hope there's no delay either since this will be your primary horn.
I've seen a few air horn systems that had a 1 -2 second delay reason I asked. That amount of time can make the difference from having no body damage to a full scale wreck taking place.

Looks good clown... personally I'd want a remote gauge in the cab to track tank psi but that's just me...
delay wise the closer you can get that solenoid to the horn the better... would it fit between the horns right in front of the mounting bolt?
how fast acting is the solenoid? you want one that opens/closes fast or you'll get a wheezy attack and fade which would just be extra annoying [to cops among others]
you want a nice sharp YO! not heeeyyyy YOUuuuuuuuuuuuu... lol
the horn valve on the truck I used to drive would sometimes hang up in cold weather so when you pulled the rope you'd get a fffffffWARpppppppp ppppp pppp... very funny but it really p-ed folks off

I got the solenoid screwed in the horn as close as I could so there isn't any delay. Higher pressure gauge put on and a harness made that plugs into the factory plug. Turned out pretty stealthy, can't even tell the horn is in there. If I can find time to run the line it's done.

Done. Here it is compared to a tacoma. I know it's impossible to tell how loud something is from a video but you get the point.

good install... you can't tell it's there at all...
I'd be a little concerned though about junk getting thrown up by the wheel knocking the fittings/gauge off... perhaps consider switching to a close nipple if you want/need to keep those parts right on the tank... also you might want to fab up a shield for the solenoid in the front wheel well there.. same reason... actually on second look the solenoid looks well protected where it is...
good sounding horn... ought to get some attention...
curious have you though about setting up an attachment point for an air hose with a tire chuck?

The air gauge and stuff is above the frame so I think it's safe, we'll find out.

So my wife didn't know it was done and when I got home she was standing in the driveway, couldn't resist, she wasn't happy with me for quite some time after I scared the crap out of her.

One idea I've had is a kill switch hidden in plain sight beside 4 or 5 other switches, some of which activates the air horns. They flip the wrong switch and the horns go off. You could also use a special relay that stays on once thrown, until the key is turned on.

Looks good! Nice install! I've got a kit from Hornblasters on my F-450. Mounted the 4 trumpets underneath the bed on a piece of diamond plate and the compressor/tank in the tool box. LOUD!! Picture shows a wire I missed that has since been hidden. Not trying to threadjack - just wanted to share.
