AIR BOX MOD for 2nd GEN 3.SLOW

Is there a mod you can do to the airbox on a 3.0?

Go to the tech write up section. Its in there. I did it on my '95 phoruner and I have seen a DRAMATIC increase in Gas mileage. Went from 220 a tank to 270-300 a tank depending on driving. In fact that was kind of wierd when I think about it.

I should take my (medicine) so I don't have to think anymore.

I did it a couple weeks ago also, I found I got a bit more pep at low RPM's.
I think my larger tires killed the little bit of pep it gave though

Glad to see some people are benefiting from this Mod. Chris Hearn (churnd) came up with the original one when he whacked the whole bottom off his. I wasn't quite that brave. I also have the ISR mod done to mine and between the two it's basically the same thing as a FIPK kit by K&N and about $200 cheaper. I have about $10 worth of parts into mine I think and it's far from Ghetto if that's what your thinking. The performance gains are okay but the biggest thing I noticed was in increase in mileage.

I cut out the side and part of the bottom between the two mounting bolts on the fender side of the box. It's a nice straight shot that's shielded from water by the fender. So far I haven't seen any problems from cutting that much out.

I would get a pic for ya but the 4runner is testing my patience with it. If it tries anymore, I may be tempted to beat the crap out of it with a baseball bat. Check out the sig for why I'm angry at it. I'm just sad that it's doing this to me after I've treated her so well. Then I just get stabbed in the back.

I've got my fingers crossed that I'll get her back tomorrow.

I never noticed much of a sound difference. I think the pinging from my old crappy exhaust was drowning out and sound difference it may have made
It did feel more torquey though, and that's all that matters.

I didn't tell my girlfriend I did anything, and she asked me just after I did it, "What did you do, the truck feels like it has a bit more 'umph'"

If she can tell, than you can tell.

Man I wish there were more girls out there like your girlfriend.
Yeah I just did mine a few mins ago and i do feel a slight difference in torque. It seems that in cruise control it doesnt shift in and out of over drive as much. I hope it helps with gas but I cant stop flooring it because i love the sound it makes. Does more holes in the air box mean LOUDER INTAKE????

It doesn't take very long at all, it's a fun little project for when you are bored.
If you haven't done it yet, then do it!
All you need is a drill and some sockets.
