ok i just ordered my steering wheel puller (.99cents off ebay) and now i want an aftermarket steering wheel, but i dont want to pay $100 just for a wheel. autozone has a grant (or a grant knockoff) one for $30, but it doesnt say it fits my 87 4runner. it does say it fits certain toyota trucks though. think it would fit?

I bought the adaptor hub off fleabay, I got it for like 25 bucks. But its cheaply made.

I've had 6 or 7 aftermarket wheels over the years. They all use a hub to go on your column, then the wheel bolts to that. There are basically two popular center patterns - 5 bolt circle and 6 bolt circle. Here's a pic of one that I had in the Flamed truck. I bought them all (and later sold them back) on eBay. By the way Summit has good prices, so does Jegs.

HInts: A couple of the reasons I've swapped around so much - one is comfort grip, hard and smooth is harder to grip (and cold in winter!) and the other is wheel size. The smaller diameters hide the gauges and don't feel right - too much effort when driving. Of course appearance too! The Grant carbon wheel looked awesome but it was small (obscured the gauges and didn't feel right when steering) and was hard to grip because it was smooth. I find 13 1/2" diameter is absolute minimum.

Get on Grant's home page, find what you want, put in your make/model, it'll tell you what you gotta have. Then order it from Summit....all my stuff for under $150 and mine is lockable and removable.

And a steering wheel puller is a WASTE of money...when you get ready to do it, just loosen the steering wheel bolt, don't remove it all the way, and then just firmly smack the steering wheel up to get it off, it'll pop loose, take off the bolt, take off the steering wheel...if you take off the bolt it'll go flying and bonk ya in the face.

I did this a while back so let me know if you have any more questions.

I have the Grant adapter in my '85 as well. I think Grant only makes one Toyota adapter and I think it fits all the Toyotas. Never needed a puller to remove the stock steering wheel, but I think I will need one if I ever pull the Grant hub off, it was a pretty tight fit going on. I ordered all my stuff from Summit as well, even the 6 switch center wireless relay controller. Love the smaller wheel, I can lower it down so that it is below the gauges for highway driving or up for around town and off-road. Being able to remove it adds security with the soft top on the truck and makes it a lot easier to work on/under the dash.

If you get a Grant wheel, they have an adapter for it. Again, I found all my stuff on Grant's site, got my part numbers, ordered it from Summit at about HALF the MSRP.

I know for a fact you need a puller to get the grant adapter off ( i should get some pics of my bent bolts from getting that sob off ) the adapter is about $15 at any autoparts store, but they don't often carry them. I have put This wheel in the last 4 trucks I have owned, and will probably put it every truck hence forth.
